Clinical Skills Development and Practicum Goals
As a result of passing through three practicum courses, I gained important skills that will help me improve where necessary. Some of these accomplishments include competency in the management of ventilators, skilfulness at requesting radiological images, and involvement in advanced wound care (Kolivand et al., 2020).
Course practicums gave me confidence and experience in various clinical skills. Successful ventilator setting management is a major accomplishment. Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs) and patient status affect ventilator settings, so I must understand and adjust them (Baigorri et al., 2020). I also have experience issuing radiology orders for accurate diagnosis and treatment. I enjoy complex wound care, which has taught me about pressure ulcer stages 1–4, incisions, drainage, and wound closure.
In spite of these strengths, I desire more growth. To this end, improving competency in secondary-stage pressure ulcer management and testing novel wound closure approaches continue to be major goals (Melrose, 2018). Further, I intend to explore some of the imaging techniques, including how they are applied to diverse medical concerns.
For my final practicum, I have outlined focused goals:
a) Advanced Wound Care Mastery: Improve on the management of stage 3–4 pressure ulcers and investigate modern methods of wound closure.
b) Deeper Imaging Modality Understanding: Have an in-depth understanding of CT, X-ray, and MRI interpretation in order to properly diagnose (ten Cate et al., 2021).
c) Ventilator Management Advancement: Adjust ventilator settings with improved ABG test results and patient responses.
d) Enhanced Collaboration Skills: Build interdisciplinary collaboration for improved internal communication in healthcare teams (Nasrollah et al., 2019).
In summary, in my last practicum, I aim at widening my scope of practice coupled with improvement in identified problematic areas. By being reflective and focusing on specific aims, I plan to make every minute count, which will contribute greatly to both my professional development and quality patient care.
