Leadership can be defined in a variety of ways using a multitude of qualities, mindsets, and characteristics. Leaders are those who guide, direct, and promote the behavior of others toward a common goal (Gottfredson, 2020). Often organizationally leaders especially those in executive positions are sought for a specific type of leadership, strategic leadership. Strategic leadership requires leaders to develop a special skill set not required of all leaders. The difference between leadership and strategic leadership lies in prediction. Strategic leadership is a balance of art and science using trends and understanding their customers and subordinates' strategic leaders align the needs of their stakeholders with organizational goals (Hawkins, 2016). Strategic leaders must have the ability to understand the scope of a goal or issue and the intuition to pivot and guide a team, group, or organization to their desired outcomes. In today's organization's strategic leadership is essential to organizational success. This is a result of the dynamic ever-changing world that we live in. Leaders in organizations today are faced with problems that are new to the industry let alone themselves. By remaining strategic it allows organizations to navigate uncertainty with a certain level of confidence. Also, as a result of the fast-paced world we live in organizations must continuously grow, develop, and transform to compete in a crowded global market. Without a strategy, this would be almost impossible. Let us look at Domino's pizza, they have risen from a deficit to become the number one selling pizza chain in the market. This is a direct result of pivoting strategies thanks to former CEO Patrick Doyle (Maze, 2018). Patrick's leadership was truly transformational improving the technologies, processes, and strategic drivers of the organization.
