626 Module 5- Tell a Story

7

Instruction:

Based on the Multilingual Classroom video and assigned articles tell a story I choose this book ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03BPNWKtxlU) using strategies you think would help multilingual students in your classroom (using Canvas  video or insert a youtube link into your discussion box). Do not film children only yourself telling the story. This video should be three minutes minimum you can read the story or relay it anyway you wish (felt boards, puppets etc). This story should be for children  prek-2nd grade.

Be sure to respond to at least two of your peers via video with suggestions and thoughts on their work.

1.Classmates A.L.

I also wanted to ask a few questions for my peers: I need answers this three questions please (not more than one full page, for all three questions )

1. Have you done a picture walk before with your students? Do you find it beneficial? 2. What do you find most challenging when conducting an interactive read aloud? 3. What are some ways to engage your students in a read aloud?

2.Classmate V.M :

As Ford (2016) explains in her article “8 Strategies for Preschool ELLs’ Language and Literacy Development", a strategy to support ELL students involves providing explicit, systematic instruction in vocabulary. Also, Ford (2016) explains that "Read-alouds that include explanations of targeted vocabulary can support word learning (Brabham & Lynch-Brown, 2002; Coyne, Simmons, Kame'enui, & Stoolmiller, 2004), as can dramatic play organized around a carefully chosen theme (Barone & Xu, 2008; Tabors, 2008)".

With this, I chose the book “My Body” by Jill McDonald. In the 3K NYC DOE curriculum, Exploration 3 has a unit that talks about "Our Impac"t and within that unit they talk about “Self”. Thus, I picked this book because it talks about different parts of the body and the students will be able to associate the vocabulary in the book interactively by repeating the words while pointing to the parts of their body and through the pictures in the book. By using repetition of the words while pointing at the body parts, the students will be able to associate the vocabulary with their own self. This will help them to understand the vocabulary in context. Also, the pictures in the book help the students to see the parts of the body move in different ways.
