· Post an explanation of how you might apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment when engaging, assessing, and intervening with Ray as a social worker. Then, discuss any areas where you feel challenged or need additional support for your biopsychosocial assessment Assignment.

Using my understanding of human behavior and the social environment context, I would ensure that I am looking at Ray about his surroundings. I could address Ray's situation specifically by looking at his micro, mezzo, and macro systems. We discover this in the "Meet Ray" videos (Walden, 2021). Ray, in the microsystem, is now dealing with grief, substance misuse, and keeping his physical appearance in check. He also has several talents, such as his resilience and woodworking abilities. While working with Ray, I plan on speaking to him about how his mezzo systems, as well as his family and peer groups at school and work, have affected him. For example, phrasing it in terms of Erikson's theory of development may help him understand how his early connection with his father became a source of concern for him. Ray witnessed his parents arguing frequently between the ages of 3 and 5, during what Erikson labeled Stage 3: "Initiative vs. Guilt," and misinterpreted his father's rage as not being wanted by him (Zastrow et al., 2019). Ray may have perceived himself as a bother to everyone because of his early inability to develop assertiveness; hence, when his father fell ill just before departing for college, he saw it as an opportunity to help his father. He may have regrets over not going to college and, following his father's death, a loss of this sense of purpose. I have not lost a parent, and I believe that I would struggle to truly understand Ray's situation. Nonetheless, I believe I have a good grasp on how to approach interacting, analyzing, and intervening in Ray's situation.

Hi Class,

HBSE refers to how individual’s environment and their social factors influence their behaviors (Zastrow et al., 2019). Looking into rays contributing factors such as substance abuse, grieving from his father passing and physical appearance, can be looked at from a micro, mezzo, and macro level. This would be helpful when trying to build a strong treatment plan that is beneficial to Ray. Not only would I look into what is causing Ray to certain behaviors, but I would look at his strengths and his personal skills that would help him be successful.

Working with Ray, I would build questions that is based on his family, friends, school, work, community, and any systems that may affect him. Throughput his development stages, Ray has witnessed many triggering aspects that may have led to these behaviors have surfaced. One of them started when he was a young boy where he constantly heard his parents arguing either about him or money. Another was him not having a close relationship with his family members on either side, maternal and paternal side. Erikson’s psychosocial development theory shows that children at the age of 3 start to become curious of the world (Zastrow et al., 2019). As Ray continued to develop, he realizes that his parents are very hard working but is absent most of the time. He also notices that any little thing that he does, he is getting yelled at by his father. At the time of his father passing, Ray started to show that he was uninterested in school, work, and appearance.

I believe that Ray case is challenging due to him having a lot of emotions from his childhood into adulthood. As his father is no longer here, I believe I would have a hard time figuring out if addressing his childhood emotions first of his adulthood emotions. As his behaviors stimmed from when he was a child, they were never addressed.
