I want to expand on employee development especially in a cross-cultural setting and in multinational companies. Employees are important assets to organizations and organizations can have competitive advantage through efficient employees. According to Vetrakova and Benova (2017), employers are interested in training and development to develop those employees that have crucial roles in fulfilling the goals of the organization. One way a company can do this is through enhancing human resource development which is explained as when targeted training for necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities for a particular job role is made towards employees. It was also found that there is a relationship between investment in human capital and return on investment to companies in the form of positive changes in financial indicators, positive externalities or other changes in the indicators defining the company’s success (Vetrakova & Benova, 2017). In essence, it is important for companies to invest in human resource development especially in a multinational company because it can help them maximize the potentials of employees.

After being in the U.S for seven years, I found out that my American friends have less diversity in social media networks.  I was surprised when some of them asked me if Saudi Arabia has social media like Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter. In the Ted Talk “Listening to global voices”, it mentioned the issue that white Americans intend to interact with white Americans. However, when I looked at my Saudi friends’ social media, I saw how they have high diversity because they follow different people from different countries. Interacting with people from different countries on social media is so beneficial because of many reasons. For example, we will increase our awareness of different cultures and that will help us to understand why other people do what they do. Also, if we see something that we like, we might try to apply it in our own culture which might help to have a positive culture change.
