The course I’m taking is Team Management (BA 606-72 H520). This is a hybrid course, which is includes face to face classes as well as online studies, which is taught by Prof. John Kenney for a duration of 16 weeks. The outcomes of this course are to describe, understand and analyze the importance of working together collaboratively, improve your analytic abilities in understanding the behavior of individuals and groups in organizations.  Apply tools for diagnosing and enhancing team effectiveness, increase your awareness of how successful business executives lead and what separates them from their unsuccessful counterparts. Prof. John Kenney uses quizzes, discussions and team assignments like powerpoint presentations and papers to help us develop an intricate understanding of how to operate in a team environment.

I’m currently working as a Sr. Technical Consultant at a firm which is building a new fleet management system for a client. This involves me working with multiple teams from my organization and the client. This requires me to have a strong working relationship between teams from both sides to ensure the work gets done in time. Taking this course has helped be build strong teams which are self-organizing and problem solving in nature which allows me as a manager to focus on other important tasks.

As a Sr. Technical Consultant, my primary job is to work with multiple stakeholders of different systems, identify technical requirements and design architectural solutions for the same. This involves me working with my internal team as well as external teams which are led by their respective SMEs and their teams. Working with multiple teams I have gained valuable experience as to how to coach and manage teams to be independent and self-organizing needing very limited oversight. I’ve been able to use these learnings directly in my team management class. The class covers a diverse range of topics related to team management and having experienced most of those topics in my professional experience, I’m able to do well in my discussions, quizzes and team assignments. With regards to conflict resolution, increasing and trust and bonding within the team improves the understanding among the members. There’s more discussions and debates rather than conflicts which are easily resolved.
