Followership as a Role
6.3 Assignment. Followership Training Seminar
Getting Started
This course culminates with this assignment that will add one more tool to your toolkit! Here's the scenario:
You have shared with your organization's leaders a bit of what you have learned about followership in this course. They are quite intrigued and have asked you to develop a one-hour followership training seminar that you will present to groups of employees in the future. Your task is to organize your thinking around the key concepts of this course, then create an expanded outline that will serve as your guide to the creation of your training seminar.
Now, you don't need to actually produce a one-hour seminar for this assignment, but simply create the outline and your choice of presentation materials that, when used, should require about an hour of time to present.
Be sure that you don't simply treat this as a lecture but make your seminar creative and engaging. Provide the key concepts, but then consider incorporating activities and/or discussion questions (such as for breakout groups). Be sure to include time to summarize the key themes near the end. Oh, and you should include reflection questions, as well, and maybe even explore the next steps for your organization. Your assignment should take the form of an expanded outline (Word document) plus a presentation (such as PowerPoint or Prezi).
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
· Explain key dimensions of followership and resulting typologies.
Instructions
1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
2. Review the following articles:
a. Followership Research: Looking Back and Looking Forward(PDF document)
b. The Leadership-Teamship-Followership Continuum(new tab)
3. Based on the scenario in the Getting Started section, create an expanded outline (Word document) plus a presentation (such as PowerPoint or Prezi) that clearly demonstrates how your seminar would be presented.
4. Be sure to keep your presentation materials very succinct with just a few keywords or phrases.
5. You are encouraged to use graphics to enhance visual appeal.
6. Use the notes section (e.g., in PPT) to supplement your slides with the explanatory material (e.g., your “script” of what you would say and why).
7. When you’ve completed your assignment, submit the expanded outline (Word doc) and the Presentation (PowerPoint or Prezi) by the end of the workshop.
