6.2 Discussion: Wisdom, Vision, and Values - Synthesis and Reflection

Getting Started

Foolishness is more than being stupid, that deadly combination of arrogance and ignorance. - Paul David Tripp

For this final discussion forum, two short articles provide additional insights about wisdom that may help you put into context your learning from these past six week. Then, select one or two concepts from your learning in previous LDR course(s) and connect it/them to some element of what you have learned in this course. Think deeply as you reflect on how the concepts fit together, and how they may be useful in your role as a leader.

Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

· Synthesize concepts from previous learning with key themes in this course (wisdom, mission, vision, and/or values).

Instructions

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2. Read the article:  The Wisdom Manifesto (new tab) .

3. Read the article:  The Big Lie of Strategic Planning (new tab) .

4. As you are reading these assigned articles, reflect upon material in previous LDR courses that is relevant to your learning about wisdom, mission, vision, and values in this course. In your initial discussion post (300–350 words), respond to the following two topics:

. Explicitly connect each of the key items from this course (wisdom, mission, vision, and values) to one or two components or ideas from your learning in one or more of your previous LDR courses. For example, you may choose to link a concept from the Developing Self as Leader course with the concept of wisdom in this course.

. How does your understanding of each of these connections contribute to new insights about leadership? You may cite assignments, videos, reading, etc. Be sure to cite the source properly and identify the LDR course(s) in which you learned about your chosen concept(s).

· For the final paragraph of your post, reflect on what you have learned in the course. How has what you learned helped you see how you might have done something better in the past. If you had it to do over again, how would you handle the situation differently? Why?
