Methods and Results
Introduction
In the quantitative research to determine the impact of social media on the academic performance of students, the researcher accommodates a fundamental open-end questionnaire for effective data collection and verifiability of the impact of social media and internet usage among students. Particularly, the research study accommodated fundamental presentation to determine the negative impacts of social media on students' academic performance. According to the authors, the qualitative data collection method accommodates ordinal, interval, and ratio, accommodating open-ended questionnaires with formulated answers to be recorded in indexes or scales, for effective data categorization, management, analysis, and decision-making (Kabir, 2015; Taherdoost, 2021). Fundamentally, the study discussion will provide an in-depth presentation on methods and results obtained in research to investigate the negative impacts of social media on studies' academic performance. Therefore, there is a comprehensive need to provide practical articulation on methods and results in the research for effective data collection techniques, deliverability, and presentation for effective use in discussion and practical implications of the research study's outcomes.
Methods
Understanding research methods is critical in supporting credibility, groundwork, and overall research performance and outcomes. Specifically, research methods provide legitimacy to the research and offer scientifically unidentifiable findings, a detailed plan to facilitate a research timeframe and performance, and supporting processes effectiveness and manageable study. Similarly, in research to investigate the negative impacts of social media on students, the researcher adopted an online survey, using a closed-ended questionnaire to collect data on the view of Southern New Hampshire University students. Specifically, the online survey questionnaire accommodated significant questions relating to students' feelings and scales on understanding the impacts of social media on academic performance. the quantitative research to determine the impact of social media on the academic performance of students, the researcher accommodates a fundamental open-end questionnaire for effective data collection and verifiability of the impact of social media and internet usage among students. Similarly, in the open-ended survey questionnaire, the researcher accommodated a fundamental online survey with open needed questionnaire accommodating a scale of formulated answers including “I concur, I strongly concur, I am neutral, I don’t concur, and I strongly do not concur” to collected students opinion on the negative impacts of social media on their academic performances. The researcher recruited 10 participants in the survey through an online interview for an effective understanding of the impacts. Noteworthy, the researcher used statistical data analysis in computing minimum, maximum, mean, standard deviation, and variance, and further data representation in a graph for readability, meaningfulness, and interpretations. Therefore, the study method accommodated an online survey using an open-ended questionnaire with a formulated answer to aggregate and subject the students’ data to statistical analysis and data visualization for effective decision-making and answerability.
Results
In the study to determine the Utilization of Social Media and its negative impacts on Academic Achievement, there were significant finding from the survey that is critical for effective discussion and conclusion.
Notably, the results indicate the negative impacts of social media on academic achievement, 4 indicated neutral, 4-I do not concur, 1-I concur, I strongly do not concur and 0-I strongly concur. In the findings, the data demonstrated that a significant number of students don't concur with the notion that the use of social media posits negative impacts on academic achievement. In the concern to determining time spent on social media, 4 out of 10 participants submitted that they do not spend much time on social media and 2 out of 10 do not concur that they spend much time on social media. Consequently, 4 out of 10 students believed that social media enhances their learning experiences.
Interestingly the data revealed that an equal number of students concur and do not concur with the position that using various social media platform increase their communicating and writing skills, 3 out of 10 concluded and 3 out of 10 did not concur. Similarly, the participants indicated that the use of social media platforms does not simply their research conducting techniques. Additionally, the findings revealed that participants do not fine relevant items for study on social media platforms. Participants presented a varying opinions on the use of social media in identifying specific phrases and words with 30% concurring, 30% do not concur and 30% strongly did not concur with the position. Consequently, 70% of the participants believed that social media is not an effective platform for learning materials. In determining convenience and cost-effectiveness, 30% concurred that social media is convenient and less expensive in the investigation, while 30% remained neutral in the position. Participants strongly did not concur with the position that social media can prevent the loss of boo and other learning materials.
Noteworthy, 60% of participants would not use social media till late in the night. Similarly, the data revealed that 50% of learners spent a longer time studying. Similarly, 90% of participants believed that achieving more academic performance when spending less time on social media. Finally, the data revealed that after the survey participants' time expenditure on social media decreased.
