This is an overview of formatting conventions. Please check your APA Publication Manual for more detailed information.

1. Title Page (p 30) a. Title of paper (p 31) b. Author’s name c. Running head (p 37, 44) d. Page number (p 37, 44)

2. Abstract – not required for student papers (p 30) unless specified by professor 3. The same font should be used throughout the entire paper, including page headers. The

following are acceptable fonts (p 44): a. Sans serif

i. 11-point Calibri ii. 11-point Arial

iii. 10-point Lucida b. Serif

i. 12-point times New Roman ii. 11-Point Georgia

4. Margins must be 1” on all sides (p 45) 5. Paragraph left aligned with ½ inch indent of first line (p 45) 6. Please read Chapter 4 – Writing Style and Grammar (pp 111-127) 7. One and only one space after punctuation marks (p 154) 8. Citations required in every paragraph – be careful not to over- (distracting and unnecessary) or

undercite (can lead to plagiarism) (pp 253-254) 9. There must be a 1:1 correspondence between citations and references – in other words, there

must be a reference for each citation and each reference must have a citation (p 257) a. Number of authors to include in in-text citations (p 266) – See table below

10. References start on a new page, are double-spaced, and require a hanging indent (p 303)
