Integrating effective communication techniques, how would you handle the situation?
The most effective communication technique would the teacher should step of from her family. She should record the conversation and inform the parent that it is being recorded. The teacher should keep calm, try to control facial expressions as well as the way she delivery her words. The teacher should remain fair and firm. She then should consider to the parent this is not the proper place to discuss the matter of her child’s behavior in public and it must be done in a school settings at the school. You can inform the parent to contact the school to set up a conference with the teacher during planning period. You should give the parent the school contact number and your school email for a follow up. Everything about a student is very private and should be spoken to in school settings.
How could ineffective communication change the outcome?
Ineffective communication can change the outcome by discussing the student’s behavior in public. You have guidelines and codes you must uphold at all times. Depending on the student’s behavior the proper place is to talk in a school settings.
What obstacles/barriers to effective communication can you identify?
The barriers of effective communication I see is that what type of communication was done to inform the mother about the student’s behavior. Has the teacher sent home letters by student, mail , e-mail or phone call?

Hello class,
I would acknowledge the parent’s presence. I would ask to speak with her away from the table. I would let her know that I am not allowed to speak with her about the student’s grade at that moment. I would ask her if there was any way possible that should could schedule a parent-teacher conference with me to discuss this child’s behavior. Ineffective communication could change this outcome, because neither party would be able to come to a conclusion due to the teacher speaking with the parent negatively about the student in front of other individuals. The barrier to effective communication that I can identify is active listening and ensuring there is privacy in the place of communication for each party to speak.
