SUMMARY

Communication is the source to express a message from one person to another. There are several ways to communicate with each other. It might be a face to face communication, through messages, through phone calls and so on. But there is certain mannerism in communicating. In business, there is a limit to communicate. The business language of communication is quite different from others as it is short and precise. It does not have a lengthy conversation. The subtopics depict different sets of business communication and how they are postulated by the scholars in their research papers taken from AUM Library.

1. Good art of business communication to win

Evaluation: In this research paper, the author Mitashree Tripathy has elaborated the different kinds of communication styles and the importance of using an assertive type of communication in the business environment. Based on the opinion of Schwartz, assertiveness is expressed in his words as “assertive people take responsibility for expressing their opinions, and make every effort to communicate successfully even when their ideas or wishes conflict with the ideas of others”. There are some types of communication styles, and every style has different consequences in the business environment. The people who are having the habit of communicating in a passive style will always tend to disregard their right and will not be honest. They are unexpressive and apologetic in mannerism. This kind of communication would lead to mismanagement and lose or win situation. The active communicators are ambitious and energetic in their work. They are meant for their dominant character which would lead them to lose their control during any extreme business situations. Since the active communicators are more dominant and do not value the emotions of other people, this kind of communications is not recommended for the business world. The author has stressed assertive communication as the best communication style when compared to passive and active communication for monitoring business deals.

The content to be expressed should not be very short or very long. The important message to be delivered alone should accompany in business communication. Secondly, the businessmen should have a clear communication with his or her client so that their discussion could be moved forward without any doubts. In whatever types of communications, whether it is a face to face contact, email or through messages, the author asks to be accurate in our words. The wording should not be lengthy and blabbered. In this fastest world, business communication has become the most important factor in estimating a person’s behaviour. In those aspects, the person should be very concise about choosing a hat kind of communication to be done with the opponent party. Emails are highly suggested to be a decent way of communication that messages and phones call. Through concise, clear and accurate communication, one can build a good and strong relationship with their co-business workers. Based on the situation, the communication should be made.

Evaluation: In this current scenario, simply conducting meetings and communicating through circulars will not keep up the ideas and events of a company with their employees. Mere, they need to communicate through the internet. Here, this article has stressed the importance of internal communication of companies through the mobile application with the employees to improve the leadership skills and put forth the strategies of operations among them. Through social apps, one can keep up the communication with the employees who do not own a person corporate email addresses and moreover it is time-consuming and easy to access in the business environment. There are many communicators in business, who could not express their voice due to the shortness of time and lack of situation. But through a mobile application, the communicators can provide an effective voice with a wide range of employees and target them with vital information. The article has provided a survey report about the results of companies having effective internal communication, and they showed great efficiency, compliance, customer satisfaction, reduced risk factor and turnover.

The author has suggested two approaches for improving the managerial level in the management, and they are; removal of communication barriers and improving the communication skills. Apart from this, he has also proposed some important functions to develop the managerial level such as forecast function, organisational function, the function of training and motivation, coordination function and control- evaluation function (internal and external communication). They have also proposed some concrete things for developing the company, and they are formal structure, start from the top, increase efficiency, gather viewpoints, not to become a victim of technology, focus on listening, ask questions, sell ideas, not to take anything personally and to be precise in communication.

Evaluation: This research describes communication as the tool for management to achieve its aim and attain success in their business. Through communication, the management expresses its views to the employees and establish their financial decisions and objectives of the company. The empirical study states that 50 per cent of employees are spending most of their time communicating for developing the interpersonal skills and small groups. They also spend more time with the media and public for the success of the organisation. The higher officials have more knowledge about communication when compared to the lower level management. Zerfass has given a good definition for corporate communication, and he states that “corporate communication is indissolubly linked, by nature and necessity to senior management, he will have all the support from his staff in regard of public relations, which shall provide advice and give support to his communication”. Finally, the author concludes that the communication management is far different from other communications. Through communication, one can link the business along with corporate communication for achieving the better objective of the company.

Evaluation: There are variations in business communication. In those variations, one of the most leading variations is the cultural aspects of business education. The change in organisational structure can impact the leaders in small and medium-sized enterprises. The author has keenly observed two main factors for these enterprises as an obstacle to competing in the business environment, and those factors are considered as the reason for the change in the business environment and making the leaders difficult to adopt new business surroundings. The two factors are the transition of the economy from the state control and the transformation of organisational communication structure in the small and medium-sized enterprises. The leaders of these enterprises use communication as an important tool for explicate their strategies and prepare their documents in their cultural language. This kind of cultural communications could be understood inside the enterprises or the leaders following the entrepreneurs. But same communications could not be understood by the opposition business party. The author states that the clear view of leaders towards their employees could be undergone through an “authoritative” style of communication. Because of insufficient communication, the leaders fail to keep up a good relationship with their business partners.

Evaluation: The author Iris I. Varner has postulated deep research on the theoretical foundation of intercultural business communication and its comparison with the international businesses. The author states intercultural issues, communication, and business together as an “intercultural communication”. These three parts comprise together and impact the communication sector in business. The cultural variables and attitudes affect the communication between an intercultural and international business. This kind of communication gives more attention to their language and cultural differences and merely provides a superficial view upon “mechanised and depersonalised Modem Corporation”. When following an intercultural business between two kinds of entrepreneurs, some factors should always be kept in mind, and they are; hiring practices, decision making, promotion policies, competitive environment, business laws, governmental requirements and financial regulations. The scholar of this research paper confesses the fact that the cultural aspects of one business will not affect the context of the other. For example, if the culture of tourism business in Thailand has been enhanced through posters, it would not affect the culture of the automobile business in the same country or any other country. This states the variations and the limited importance to be given for the cultural aspects of business communication towards success.

Evaluation: In business communication, the satisfaction of the provided content by the opponent team is the most important factor to be considered for the development of the business. Similarly, in an organisation or a company, the employees should get satisfied with the communication of their manager so that they could understand what the manager is expecting them to owe the company’s business. Karmen Erjavec and his teammates have done an internet survey with 205 employees regarding healthy communication managers and their communication channels to interact with their employees. The research was done with Serbian and Slovenian employees. The result of the survey provided three types of managers’ communication, and they are;

· Top Managers- these managers use face to face communication with their employees.

· Middle managers- they communicate through Emails and telephones with their employees.

· Frontline managers- These managers use both face to face and telephonic way of communication.

When the author and his coworkers analysed the opinions of the surveys taken from the employees randomly, it was finalised that the employees feel comfortable when the managers communicate through emails and telephones.

The authors have confessed face to face communication as one of the best practice to deal with clients. And moreover, he has given some tips to follow while communication with clients and they are not to interrupt during communication, reiterate and actively listen, limit the scope and ask questions to the client. Through these factors, a good relationship and credibility could be built. He also says that we should have the habit of refraining from saying “No” and there are some dos and don’ts invoice mailing to the client where most of the entrepreneurs make mistakes. Moreover, Marilyn has described some ethics of communication during a conference with the clients along with the obstacles faced in the business due to improper client communication.

Evaluation: Practicing perfect communication for the betterment of business is a good trial, but we cannot define whether we are developing in our communication aspects. Through practices, one can mould their communication ways and language. But this could be followed by measuring the effectiveness of our communication skills. The author Karolina Muszyńska has introduced a concept of measuring the effectiveness of communication in this research paper. The scholar has researched in small scale project teams. At first 19 aspects of effectiveness in communication was piled with the help of a literature survey and those aspects were examined with each team members of the organisation through survey and case study. Through his examination, the author found that among 19, only 4 of them an effective communication skill while 12 were at an average level and the rest of them showed very low communication skill. These results imply the need for practices to increase the effectiveness of communication in business.

Evaluation: In order to build good effectiveness in communication, One cannot merely transfer his or her habit or behaviour within a small life span. They need a continuous and dedicated practice in their life for moulding themselves as a good business communicator. For this purpose, the students who are engaged in business education should be given a good practice of communication so that they can improve themselves and follow the learnt skills throughout their life. The author Lisa and her co-workers have researched about the new way of seeking business communication for the students to understand the intercultural communication and how can they overcome hard situations. For knowing the mentality of the students, the research was done upon the University students, and the author found that three main factors of emotional intelligence are playing a vital role in monitoring the behavioural aspects in intercultural communication in business. Those three factors are emotionality, sociability and self control. By limiting these factors, one can easily overcome the barriers in intercultural communication. Thus, the author stresses the importance of adding emotional intelligence in the business curriculum for teaching the students how to manage and reduce the emotional intelligence according to the situations which they will face in the future as a businessman.
