5.2 Discussion. Global Mindset

Getting Started

Foundational to leading effectively in a global context is the development of what is referred to as a “global mindset.” In the assigned video and article, we see that a global mindset is a list of qualities, knowledge, and communication skills that leaders use to positively influence those with whom they work and who represent a multicultural cross-section of people. Implemented, a global mindset guides the global leader to think past previous behaviors and an ethnocentric worldview in ways that empower them to function well despite the various cultural differences that they experience.

5. View the TedTalk video entitled “The Importance of Cultivating a Global Mindset”: 

6. In your initial post (250-300 words) and based on the assigned materials, discuss how a global mindset might inform the global leader on two of the following questions:

a. Should controversial topics be discussed openly with others on the multicultural team?

b. Is transparency by the leader valued universally across cultures?

c. Is being authentic with emotions in the workplace considered a healthy practice?

d. Can corporate culture bridge all cultural differences?
