People, devices, and organizations are more interconnected today than ever before. Despite the advantages of interconnectivity, there is an increased risk of cybercriminal activity such as theft, fraud, and abuse. Because of our increasing reliance on technology and the expected continued growth of Internet-based applications, we will continue to be more vulnerable, personally and as a society, to cybercrime exploitation. Given this reality, cybersecurity and law enforcement tools and technologies needed to safeguard and secure cyberspace are critical in providing a safe environment for communication, exploration, and innovation.
Despite the Internet knowing no borders, law enforcement in the United States and around the globe performs essential roles in making the Internet a safer place to conduct business and commerce. Law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity experts with a robust understanding of the tools and technologies utilized by malicious actors and the specific vulnerabilities that are targeted constantly work to effectively identify and mitigate cybercrime risks.

Background Information
As mentioned, law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity experts all over the world are constantly working to effectively identify and mitigate cybercrime risks. Private organizations also play a critical role in combating cybercrime. It is critical for the public and private sectors to coordinate in sharing intelligence, tools, and techniques in combating cybercrime. One example of such coordination is InfraGard, a partnership between the FBI and members of the private sector. InfraGard provides a means to expedite the timely exchange of information and promotes learning opportunities relevant to the protection of critical infrastructure.
