5-1 Module Responses
After asking family/friends, my top values also align with the values they have of me. Compassion and integrity are my top values, and I was also told that I am a peacemaker. My core values are based on how people view me as a friend or coworker. Opinions might differ based on personal and professional views, but my values are the same. These values are related to my strengths and abilities. My understanding of how people see me will be reflected through my values and who I am as a person. Someone who thinks I am caring will correlate with my value of compassion. The best version of yourself is who you are when you are honest and vulnerable. When I am at work or with friends and family, I never fake who I am or try to be someone else. If you are different when you are at work versus in your social life those values will be different. I don't overshare at work, but I am honest in what I do, and I am a team player, just like I am with my friends/family.
Reflecting on my values is very important. It allows me to understand myself better and work on self-reflection. It helps me make decisions based off what is right and remain focused on my goals. It also helps me understand others around me and gain knowledge on how to align my values and beliefs. This will also keep me away from the shadows of leadership by being able to address our motivators, improve decision making, and acquire the proper skills and strategies. (Johnson, 2019). Reflecting on our values allows us to challenge one another and look inward for what we want to accomplish.
