The design of English 101 is to introduce students to college level research papers. Regardless of previous exposure to writing papers, this course familiarizes students with the appropriate process for college writing.

You have had the following information assigned or available to you about writing a research paper:

1. Online assignments to read and summarize

2. YouTube videos to watch and summarize

3. Announcements

4. Emails

5. Blackboard Button: Requirements of the Essays > The Argumentative Research Paper

Usually, plagiarism occurs because students forget to document where the primary information was acquired. However, as an instructor, we cannot read the student’s intention.

1. Research Paper Content:

· You must cite BOTH quotations (no more than 10% of the paper )

· Paraphrases (at  least 90% of the paper).

· NOTHING IN THE PAPER CAN BE JUST YOUR OPINION.

· YOU ACQUIRE INFORMATION FROM SOURCES.

· YOU MAY CHOSE SOURCES THAT SUPPORT  YOUR OPINION, BUT THEY MUST BE DOCUMENTED (CITED +WORKS CITED).

2. The 3 body paragraphs that address your points and refutation have NO citations at all.

3. This is a research paper … as such … you must support the points with research.

4. To fit the definition of a research paper, you had to use sources. There are Online assignments to read and summarize, YouTube videos to watch and summarize, Announcements, Emails, Blackboard Button: Requirements of the Essays > The Argumentative Research Paper, and an entire folder dedicated to the research paper and its requirements.

5. If you say that those are your opinion, then you do not meet the requirements of a research paper. Please see the red bullet above.

– 10 The design of English 101 is to introduce students to college level research papers. This paragraph fits the definition of plagiarism because there is no indication of the source of the information. See note after the chart.
