First of all, laws, regulations and guidelines are in place at the first place to protect the interest of private companies. For example, the cybersecurity framework was instituted as a directive from President Obama to protect critical infrastructures. The cybersecurity framework is a voluntary program that provide the bases of how companies protect their information. Companies are graded or classified based on the level of security measures they employ to protect the customers confidential information. This also serve as a form of certification. Companies that employed the sophisticated level of security to protect confidential information were favored by customers compared to those that employed simple methods. That is because customers want their private information to be in safe hands (NIST,2014)

Moreover, most data breach cases reported in recent years were results of company not complying with the basic requirement or security measures outlined in the cybersecurity framework. As a result, those affected companies not only losing millions of dollars in lawsuit but run out of business because no customer in his right frame of mind wants to do business with that company (WHOA.com,2017)
