LIST OF 3 LIVING ARTISTS for 4 PPT Presentation

THIS LIST IS A REQUIRED PART OF THE ASSIGNMENT!

The list is counted as 10 points of the overall grade for this assignment.

The List of 3 Living Artists must be sent to Mrs. Armstrong by email to [email protected].

List is DUE no later than one week after the day I GIVE the 4 PPT Pres. Assignment.

I MUST REPLY to your list by email, assigning 1 of your choices,

BEFORE you can begin work. Do not proceed until you have my reply! No exceptions.

Every student will do a different artist. First come – first choice!

“First” is determined by the day and time of your emailed list.

This means that the 1st student who submits that artist’s name as #1 on their list will get that artist.

Once that artist is taken then they are no longer available.

Later lists will be given their 2nd or 3rd choices depending on whether those artists are available.

I will notify you if none of your choices are available, and ask you to resubmit. Do so ASAP.

***********************************************************************

The following criteria are required regardless of your art form and artist choices:

THE ARTIST MUST BE ALIVE AND WORKING and YOU SHOULD LIKE THEIR WORK.

YOU should check to make sure the artist is still alive!

If the artist is dead, take their name OFF the list!

Pick any VISUAL art form YOU like, not something to please me.

You can also search an artwork subject, like landscape, or an art movement, or an issue or theme. Anything that helps you choose 3 artists who are alive and currently active.

You must be able to show pictures of at least 3 different artworks by your artist.

No image(s) - do not do that artist.

You must show 3 or more art works by this artist to establish a body of work.

You DO NOT analyze all of them, just show what the artist’s work looks like.

You must have at least 1 image of the one artwork you analyze.

You should repeatedly show an image of the 1 art work many times during the presentation.

You must find and use at least 3 DIFFERENT SUBSTANTIAL RESEARCH SOURCES.

The sources used must be about the artist, and at least two should include the specific artwork analyzed. ALL sources must be substantial and different.

Not enough available research sources? – Do NOT choose that artist.

**************************************************************************

EMAIL ME IMMEDIATELY, If you encounter problems with research, or images or other problems while you are working on the assignment.

You cannot just change artist. You must request any change of artist.

Email me a REQUEST A CHANGE OF ARTIST!!

You must also include your section number and FULL name.

If you have another choice of artist(s), put that name(s) in the email too.

WAIT FOR MY REPLY before you change.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR ARTISTS FOR THE LIST OF 3 LIVING ARTISTS.

You can use many different methods to find those artists for the List of 3 Living Artists.

Look for artists whose artwork you already know and like , then find out if that artist (and artwork) fits the requirements given above for this assignment.

Look for artworks by title you have seen and liked , then find out if that artwork (and artist) fits the requirements given above for this assignment. (My PPTs are a possibility.)

Look for artworks by issue or social commentary . Current issues include but are not limited to LGBTQ rights, feminism, human rights, climate change, racism, sexism, human trafficking, and education.

Look for artworks by subject. Subjects include portraits, self-portraits, spiritual/religious art, landscapes, genre images, and other subjects found in visual arts.

Look for art forms that appeal to you .

Use the following LIST OF POSSIBLE ART FORMS below to start. When you start this way you are looking for a type of artwork that appeals to you. Then you must refine your search to individual artist or artwork.

LIST OF POSSIBLE ART FORMS for the 4 PPT Presentations This is NOT a list of artists!

This IS a list of some of the possible traditional and non-traditional art forms usable for the final. If you don’t start with an artist, artwork, subject or issue, then perhaps you can start with an art form.

Once you find an interesting art form, THEN you MUST find artist(s) who create that art form. Google the art form and look at works you like (Images). Click on interesting images.

When you find works and the artists look for the following –

1. Is the artist is alive?

2. Have they made enough work for you to show 3-5 pieces?

3. Is there enough substantial research to meet the requirements of the assignment?

ALL 3 items must be a “yes” before you choose that artist.

TRADITIONAL ART FORMS

Drawing – all media and forms, including sidewalk drawing. (Ch. 2.1)

Painting – all media and forms including graffiti and street art. (Ch. 2.2)

Printmaking – all processes including archival digital prints that are made as prints. (Ch. 2.3)

Photography – should be art, commercial or journalistic or editorial, not snapshots or pictures of other artworks, architecture, or other simply informational photos. (Ch. 2.8)

The photograph must be the art work, not the subject of the photograph. All types of photographic printing processes are allowed.

Digital art – there are a variety of forms that are all or in part produced using computers. (Ch. 2.9) I will take these artists and forms on an individual basis – ask me please with links to their work.

Sculpture – all media (Ch. 2.4)

BOTH non-moving and kinetic sculpture. If it is in the PPT then it is usable.

ANY media: The sculpture is the point, not what it is made of. It can be made of anything.

Other 3D art forms (often listed by materials/media). (Ch. 2.6 & 2.10) This list is not complete.

ceramic art (clay) fiber art (yarn, twine, fabric etc.)

glass art wood-based art forms

food sculpture ice and snow sculptures

plant sculpture (topiary) sand sculpture

LESS TRADITIONAL and NON-TRADITIONAL art forms and materials (next page).

LESS TRADITIONAL and NON-TRADITIONAL art forms and materials.

These forms will require more effort from you.

Research may be more difficult.

You must consult with me one time at least 2 weeks in advance of the actual presentation, if your approved artist is creating one of the following art forms.

Applied 3D art forms (use nearest 3D art form for analysis vocabulary)

product design fashion design accessory design

car and motorcycle body design jewelry design (art type, not mass produced)

stage set design special effects make-up / appliances (sculpture & painting)

Applied 2D forms (use nearest 2D art form for analysis vocabulary)

animation and/or anime cartooning, comics and manga

tattoo art commercial advertising design/art

video art (NOT music videos) car or motorcycle custom painting

Forms combining SCIENCE AND ART – often unique forms and unusual materials.

Look at end of 3D PPT. Also, please check with me to see if the work is appropriate to this assignment.

I KNOW I have missed something. Have an idea or an artist doing something unusual? ASK ME!

NOT the limit to your choices – just a beginning for your search!
