Measurement and Analysis Section
How do I write about measurements and analysis?
Relax and take a deep breath. Any information that you collect will be from articles that you’ve
read – or from websites that you’ve read. You will form an opinion about something (such as the
topic that you’re writing about. Your opinion is called a qualitative analysis, which simply means
that you’re rendering your opinion about the information that you found.
Is your analysis quantitative or qualitative?
To write a “measurements and analysis” section, you will explain if your research is quantitative,
qualitative – or both. Click here to see the difference between quantitative and qualitative
research. How will you hypothetically gather this quantitative or qualitative information? From
journals?
Discuss where you will get your information from!
In your paper, discuss where you will get your information from. You’ve already written many
papers at AIU and you got information from somewhere to be able to write your papers. This
research paper is no different. It might be from several sources, to include:
✓ Journals ✓ Government statistics posted online or wherever ✓ Online articles previously written about your research topic ✓ Preexisting studies about your topic ✓ Or anything else that you can find
Anything that you analyze or will comes from your sources!
Discuss Cause and Effect (Analysis)
You might find information about crime statistics that relate to your topic. Or you might find an
article that says that something happens when a new kind of technology is issued to law
enforcement, such as Tasers or body cameras on officers. You might find some sort of cause and
effect that you can write about:
• When officers carry Tasers, injuries decrease.
• When officers wear body cameras, more people behave because everybody knows they are being filmed.
• When officers wear bodycams, officers use-of-force decreases.
Whatever your research topic is, you will hopefully find some sort of a cause and effect (write
about what you find).
