This week, i learned that how VITAS setup support for patient's caregiver, family, after the death of the patient. I found this a little difficult due to the expectation to following up with someone who is in the deep grief of loss. Having personally experienced it in my own life, I knew with my calls it would be difficult to convey my deep condolences. But as stated in previous discussion board posts, being a listening ear, makes a difference. I  have enjoyed being a volunteer for VITAS, and have seen health-care in a different way at this time.

The role of a community health nurse in a public health setting is essential. It begins with an analysis of communities to allow for the proper assessment of needs. Not only is PHN examining neighborhoods, but also participating in creating public policies to aid individuals within the communities. Additionally, assuring health services and programs are effective. The PHN role stated in the above would be amazing to observe. To examine the health professional through research and analysis is a position I wish I had the opportunity to explore. Then following PHN support policies and programs is a career I would appreciate immensely. It is a calculated profession, and leadership skills are critical. It's quite an intriguing career and almost seems impossible to perform from a civilian point of view. Yet, as I gain more knowledge of this particular nursing profession, it is an exciting path I would further investigate—such a great responsibility to aid the greater good of our communities.
