Assignment 3: Reflection

Due lesson 24

I. Assignment Description

Individually submit a written reflection of 400-500 words on your experience producing assignment 2, the Research Paper. What did you set out to achieve? What did you discover along the way? Which language skills learned in the course stood out for you most?

You should refer to at least TWO syllabus-related items that you found helpful in completing the assignment, such as:

1. Selecting a research topic;

2. Argumentative writing, or one of the other lessons on organizational patterns in expository writing;

3. Analyzing written genres (specifying which lesson in particular you found most helpful).

You may also briefly reflect on any difficulties you encountered (e.g. finding relevant sources, specific language problems), and how you may overcome these in future endeavours. You are encouraged to refer to relevant class notes uploaded to SOUL in the completion of this assignment.

II. Assessment

Assessment will cover three areas: Content, Grammar, and Vocabulary, worth 10 marks each.

III. Requirements

· write in full sentences, using paragraphs;

· produce 400-500 words;

· reflect on two syllabus-related items;

· do not use references in your work.

IV. Suggested Structure

You may use the following structure for your reflection, but this is not a must:

Paragraph 1 – write one or two sentences summarizing what your research goals were;

Paragraph 2 – reflect on first syllabus-related item;

Paragraph 3 – reflect on second syllabus-related item;

Paragraph 4 – write one or two sentences on how the research project activity helped you grow (or not grow!) as a learner. Will you draw upon any of the skills you learned in future?
