Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal
Write a brief introduction (2 to 3 sentences) to your proposal that outlines the issue you are attempting to solve, the part of the organization in which the plan would be carried out, and the desired outcome. This will set the stage for the sections below.
Objective
Describe what your plan will do and what you hope it will accomplish in one or two succinct sentences. Also, comment on how the objective, if achieved, will improve organizational or patient outcomes. For example:
Test a double-loop feedback model for evaluating new product risk with a small group of project managers with the goal of reducing the number of new products that fail to launch. This objective is aligned to the broader organizational goal of becoming more efficient taking products to market and, if successful, should improve outcomes by reducing waste.
Questions and Predictions
For this section ask yourself 3 to 5 questions about your objective and your overall plan. Make a prediction for each question by answering the question you posed. This helps you to define the important aspects of your plan as well as limit the scope and check its ability to be implemented.
For example:
1. How much time will using a double-loop feedback model add to a project manager’s workload?
a. At first, it will likely increase their workloads by 5 to 10 percent. However, as the process is refined and project managers become more familiar and efficient, that percentage will decrease.
Change Theories and Leadership Strategies
For this section, you may wish to draw upon the research you did regarding change theories and leadership for the Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification assessment. The focus of this section is how those best practices will create buy-in for the project from an interdisciplinary team, improve their collaboration, and/or foster the team’s ability to implement the plan. Be sure that you are including at least one change theory and at least one leadership strategy in your explanation. Always remember to cite your sources; direct quotes require quotation marks and a page or paragraph number to be included in the citation.
Another way to approach your explanations in this section is to think through the following:
· What is the theory or strategy?
· How will it likely help an interdisciplinary team to collaborate, implement, and/or buy in to the project plan?
· Make sure to frame this explanation within the organizational context of the proposed plan, that is, your interviewee’s organization.
Team Collaboration Strategy
In this section, begin by further defining the responsibilities and actions that represent the implementation of the plan. One strategy to defining this is to take a “ who, what, where, and when” approach for each team member.
For example:
· Project Manager A will apply the double-loop feedback model on one new product project for a single quarter.
· Project Manager B will apply the double-loop feedback model on all new product projects for a quarter.
Vice President A will review the workloads of project managers using the double-loop feedback model every Thursday for one quarter.
After you have roughly outlined the roles and responsibilities of team members, you will explain one or more collaborative approaches that will enable the team to work efficiently to achieve the plan’s objective. As with the change theories and leadership strategies, you may draw on the research you conducted for the Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification assessment. However, you are being asked to give a more in-depth explanation of the collaboration approaches and look at how they will help the theoretical interdisciplinary team in your plan proposal.
Another way to approach your explanations in this section is to think through the following:
· What is the collaboration approach?
· What types of collaboration and teamwork will best help the interdisciplinary team be successful?
· How is the collaboration approach relevant to the team’s needs and will it help drive success?
· Make sure to frame this explanation in terms of the subject of the plan proposal; that is, your interviewee’s organization.
Required Organizational Resources
For this section, you will be making rough estimates of the resources needed for your plan proposal to be successful. This section does not have to be exact but the estimates should be realistic for the chosen organization.
Items you should include or address in this section:
· What are the staffing needs for your plan proposal?
· What equipment or supplies are needed for your plan proposal?
· Does the organization already have these?
· If so, what is the cost associated with using these resources?
· If not, what is the cost of acquiring these resources?
· What access (to patients, departments, and so forth) is needed?
· Are there any costs associated with these?
· What is the overall financial budget request for the plan proposal?
· Staff time, resource use, resource acquisition, and access charged?
· Remember to include a specific dollar amount in your request.
After you have detailed your budget, make sure that you explain any impacts on organizational resources that could happen if your plan is not undertaken and successful. In other words, if the issue you are try to solve through your plan proposal persists or gets worse, what will be the potential costs to the organization?

4010 Assessment 3 START HERE.docx
This is a copy of the first paper I wrote talking about the health problem this particular organization is having which is:
poor communication & coordination among different departments
You are to make a proposal as to what can be done to improve communication. It needs to be something tangible.
Ideas:
1. Perhaps paying employees for an extra hour of work to come before their shift start for morning a meeting for the next 6 months then once per month thereafter, to better plan/collaborate patient care.
2. Providing work cellphones OR pagers w encrypted texting capabilities assigned at the beginning of the shift and be returned at the end of the shift
3. Maybe the IT department can install wall-mounted bedside computer in each room equipped with scanners so that nurses have quick access to the patient chart without relying on the W.O.W. (workstation on wheels) to deliver patient care. You can pretend that the mid-sized healthcare facility doesn’t already have this
4. Hiring an extra secretary to help better coordinate care on the unit between the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and external departments Pretend there’s already one, but you want to hire another
**These are only ideas, if you think of something better. Go ahead as long as it makes sense
( start of the paper)
Interview & Interdisciplinary Issue Identification
For this assessment, an interview was conducted with a nurse manager working at a mid-sized healthcare facility. She is qualified with over 10 years of experience and handles financial and human resources at her facility. In the interview, she reported that her job description requires her to ensure the satisfaction of patients with the healthcare services being delivered, as well as maintaining a safe, healthy working environment for the staff. The first problem she mentioned is related to interprofessional communication and cooperation that stems from a lack of collaboration among the staff. This issue causes significant time loss when it comes to delivering optimum patient care. She also mentioned that prior attempts to deal with this issue, for example, through conducting team-building workshops and arranging interprofessional meetings, were not very effective. It was because of a lack of proper follow-up and a the highly established dysfunctional organizational culture that was based on an independent working approach. The organizational currently in place fosters individualism and does not require healthcare professionals to collaborate. The interviewee also stressed the need for cultural changes aimed at increasing the levels of team integration and common goals. They have had prior experiences in interdisciplinary collaboration, which resulted in improvement in all kinds of results; thus, they understand the significance it holds.
Issue Identification
Reviewing the interview revealed that the most significant issue mentioned by the nurse manager is poor communication and coordination among different departments of a healthcare facility. This leads to prolonged patient care and ineffective outcome coordination between healthcare professionals involved in the client's care process. An evidence-based interdisciplinary approach should be used as a problem-solving model because it allows a teamwork approach to patient care, which enhances and optimizes the delivery of care by different health specialists. This is a favorable approach that fosters cooperation amongst departments and helps to form proper working relationships.
Change Theories That Could Lead to an Interdisciplinary Solution
The PDSA or Plan-Do-Study-Act model is a suitable and applicable approach to use as a change theory in handling interprofessional relationships at the healthcare facility. This is a cyclical change model where an intended change is planned and tested on a small scale, and then, by understanding the results, it is applied on a broader level (McNicholas et al., 2019). Thus, through PDSA, the departments can implement trial collaborative projects and assess their effectiveness and mitigate the shortcomings affecting teamwork and communication. This model is useful because it presents a series of consecutive steps that are followed to solve the problems related to communication observed in the interview. It fosters sustainability and frequent changes that help eliminate the individualistic attitude firmly rooted in the organization. The use of the PDSA is an evidenced-based model that has been utilized by a number of healthcare organizations looking to improve efficiency in their healthcare environments to enhance quality.
Leadership Strategies That Could Lead to an Interdisciplinary Solution
Interdisciplinary collaboration could be improved by applying transformational leadership as one of the effective strategies. This approach relies on encouraging and engaging the staff in order to get them to accomplish the set objectives and adopt new strategies (Iqbal et al., 2019). Transformational leaders feature a system where people can freely exchange information with other employees, establish a social vision, and foster professional growth promoted as the means of eradicating the use of the individualistic decision-making approach to every health problem. Transformational leadership helps to reduce such barriers and promotes the development of an organization's communication structure that supports the rules and can help to reduce the identified communication barriers. It is also invaluable in this respect since it corresponds to the already outlined demand for a new culture to improve teamwork and better-defined goals. This approach is considered credible based on a research article by Ystaas et al. (2023). It’s evidenced by authors who give their account and insights into the application of this approach in improving team performance and set out ways of bringing out the changes required in an organization. This source has already been recognized in the field of nursing, which means that transformational leadership can be used to solve the problems of interdisciplinary cooperation in the selected facility.
Collaboration Approaches for Interdisciplinary Teams
The TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) tool is a very useful strategy that can be utilized to enhance collaboration among healthcare providers of different departments. While discussing the concept of TeamSTEPPS, it is important to understand that it focuses on the problems in communication, leadership, coordination, and situation awareness. The healthcare facility will be laying down strategies that will develop a good context for interdisciplinary work that, in turn, will enhance the general flow of work. It is also evident that this approach is most relevant because it tackles communication problems. TeamSTEPPS contains many useful strategies and approaches aimed at strengthening inter and intra-professional collaboration and ensuring all participants share the same objectives. I’ve even heard of the TeamSTEPPS at facilities I’ve worked at. The credibility of TeamSTEPPS can validated through the studies conducted by Kuriyan et al. (2021), where the effectiveness of this program has been tested and proven effective in enhancing teamwork and security for patients.
