Introduction: Middle/Lit review-2

REVIEW from last week…

The middle and bulk of the introduction is dedicated to reviewing the literature in a way that makes an argument for why you conducted the study being reported.

For each reviewed study, include a synopsis (1-2 paragraphs) of the study’s purpose/hypotheses, what was done, what was found, and what the authors concluded

Use answers to the homework questions (correct answers reviewed in class) to guide your writing; that is the information you should summarize

Skolnick & Shaw (2001)

indicated guilty or not guilty, as well as answers questions about sentencing, strength of the evidence, and some of the defendant’s traits.

Skolnick & Shaw (2001) continued

Results:

In Study 1, was a defendant more likely to be found guilty when evidence was physical or when it was based on eyewitness testimony (be sure to include percentages in your answer)?

physical evidence: 84% indicated guilty

eyewitness testimony: 67% indicated guilty

In Study 2, was a defendant more likely to be found guilty when strong evidence was physical or when strong evidence was based on eyewitness testimony (be sure to include percentages in your answer)?

Strong physical evidence: 85% indicated guilty

strong eyewitness evidence: 78% of the jurors.

In one or two sentences, describe the authors’ conclusions (related to the purpose).

Based on the results [summarized above] which type of evidence has more influence on jurors’ decision-making; physical evidence or eyewitness testimony?
