education. The author emphasizes how important multicultural education is, which I never

considered. I learned that teachers need to be aware of multicultural education. They can utilize

different approaches to incorporate it into their curriculum. By having this awareness, teachers

can educate their culturally diverse students and provide all students with an equal education.

This shows that cultural diversity is connected to the problem because teachers are not

knowledgeable enough about their diverse students, who can live in impoverish neighborhoods.

attend urban schools do not receive an equal education. The source expanded my knowledge on

how urban students are treated differently. They are not offered advanced courses, creativity is

not valued, and higher education is not encouraged. To ensure that all children succeed, poverty

needs to be treated. Obtaining an education should not be considered a luxury, but a necessity.

Cultural diversity is evident in this resource because the children who attend urban schools come

from a diverse background in terms of their race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.

This source is an example of the importance of cultural diversity in regards to poverty’s role on

education. Reading this information contributed to my knowledge because I was unaware that a

relatively large number of students live in poverty or in low-income families. I also learned that

the terms “diverse” and “urban” are often used to describe schools that have not received the best

education systems. From reading this source, I could see that cultural diversity is important to

teach educators. Teachers tend to be white and from the middle class. This can create a cultural

gap between teachers and their students.

teachers are needed in poor communities. I learned that by having better teachers, the students in

these areas will reap the benefits. These teachers should be passionate, committed to their

students’ learning, hold high expectations for the students, and be sensitive. The importance of

cultural diversity is connected to this article because it explains that teachers can learn about

their diverse student population by participating in community activities and integrating cultural

knowledge. This knowledge can be integrated through literature, the use of humor, field trips,

and having children share their homes with the class and teacher.
