Cultural Work
Student Name:Saul Gallegos
Date: 03/26/22
Given the cultural work you have selected in Module Two, take time to work on the following:
1. Thinking of the work selected, explore how acts of creative expression impact, and are impacted by, the people and situations surrounding them.
For the cultural work paper, I carefully chosen the monument, name The Statue of Liberty. Now, the question that chiefly comes to mind is how did the particular statue come to be and why was it even made? Originally, the Statue of Liberty planned for the canals of Suez in Egypt. The late Frederic Bartholdi goes to see Eygpt and was fascinated by the proposal of their pyramids and sphinxes use. He successfully formed the design in the slave form for the canal entrance but the Egyptians did not like the idea so he fetched the idea to Edouard de Laboulaye.
Laboulaye very well enjoyed the idea and inclined it to the Americans and took a very long
while for them to get used to the same. Nowadays, the Statue of Liberty has a much dissimilar meaning to people. Even, people find it as a symbol of hope and strength. Some people get this heartfelt feeling of “welcome home”. Moreover, the statue has many diverse meanings to people around the world (Eggers, 2017).
2. State questions about the relationship between culture and expression.
● What makes one to arrive at the choice of clothing for the Statue of Liberty?
● How did the Americans feel about this monument when it was taken to them?
● Was the statue formerly a black woman?
3. State questions about your values and how they are shaped by the expression of others.
● What stories have rooted my values and statue worldview?
● What is the standing of the Liberty location?
4. Determine how you would go about answering the questions posed.
For this, I will give a start to my research by exploitation of all the sources of the Shapiro Library. Then, it has to continue my research to discover stories in the New York Times on the subject of liberty.
