4.2 Discussion. Cultural Intelligence/Livermore Model
Getting Started
If you are like most people, when you hear the word intelligence, you likely associate it with IQ, or intelligence quotient. Harvard professor Howard Gardner (1993), however, asserted that people possess or acquire multiple types of intelligence. He identified a few of them, including social, emotional, and linguistic intelligence. For this assignment, we will explore another type of intelligence often referred to as CQ: cultural intelligence. By the end of this workshop, not only will you learn what CQ is…but also why it is such an important asset for global leaders.
Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:
· Explain cultural intelligence and the role it plays in effective global leadership.
Instructions
1. Read the Forbes article: CQ: The Test Of Your Potential For Cross-Cultural Success (new tab) .
2. Listen to the 20-minute podcast with Cultural Intelligence expert David Livermore: on YouTube
3. In your initial post (250-300 words) and based on the assigned materials, discuss the four key capabilities in David Livermore’s model of CQ. Then, apply what you have learned about one or more of those four key components to respond to one or more of the following questions:
a. What makes CQ unique, and how does it differ from IQ?
b. What makes CQ particularly valuable in terms of leadership competency in today’s global market?
c. How can a global leader develop CQ?
4. Your initial post is due by Day 4 of the workshop.
