Comparative Essay Progress
1) The composition of my comparative essay has been smooth these far. Looking at the relevance of the concept resilience in the niches of racism and mental health has been eye opening. I have realized that resilience is not absolute remedy in the niches above. Resilience can be effective when the external factors are favourable. I am proud that I have been able to identify the similarities and differences between my essay. I am going to refine my thesis statement further to ensure that it recaps the key differences and similarities between the two essays. Moreover, I intend to add connectors in between the paragraphs to denote the similarities and differences. Moreover, I will write a conclusion about the whole essays where I will summarize they key take aways from my two articles. Another thing that I will do finally is to proofread my work to ensure that there are no typo errors in my work.
2) My comparative essay progress isn't the greatest, as I'm realizing the nuances in both articles don't directly match up and it's a bit difficult to find major comparison points as one is centred in workplace resilience and one is more broad, even though it does mention the former.
I'm hoping I have enough comparative material to build the rest of my paragraphs without sounding repetitive. One thing I've noticed is that my selection in articles felt limited because of where I was getting my sources from, without a functioning VPN. I feel like I may need to switch my articles but I am not sure if we have the freedom to do that since we've already turned in a rough draft.
Other than that, I enjoy my venture into resilience in psychology and this has inspired me to write about the topic just for fun when I get a chance.
3) I am pretty happy about the current state of my essay. I have been working on my peer review recommendations and I feel like it has allowed me to fix my essay and make it better. The only thing I am struggling with is finding a difference but I have found it today actually (yay!)! It was difficult for a while finding the differences because I purposely chose 2 topics that were in the same field. I wanted to challenge myself so I can really analyze the 2 topics to find the differences and once I did find it, it was sort of an obvious one! This challenge has been great and will be rewarding once I actually begin to dissect it in my paragraphs. I have revised the grammar and sentence structures. I am currently focusing on gathering quotes for my summaries to make them stronger. Once my summaries are stronger, I know that it will make the rest of the paper flow easier.
I need to finish up the compare and the contrast paragraphs which will be easier as I am currently writing down notes and quotes for this.
My only question which I have researched but haven't came across anything solid would be: how do you quote an author that has quoted another author? I don't usually quote a quote but this quote is the definition of resilience so it's definitely needed to form my paper.
