I Will Be a Great Educator

Teachers play a significant role in the way that they affect their student’s lives. Even though the term teacher and educator might seem the same, they are different in various aspects. That is, a teacher is a professional fulfilling their role, whereas educators go the extra mile to influence their student’s in positive and life-changing ways. Evaluation of qualities that I poses that make me a great educator, in my opinion, have proven that I have a passion for helping children, I am a reflective individual, and I always seek to improve.

I have a strong passion for teaching and I find pleasure being around children. Teaching has always been a passion of mine for a very long time, and I remember at a very young age I always thought that I would like to teach. In addition, I know it is up to a child’s educator to ensure that the child develops into their own individual, and explore their hopes and dreams without fear of failure, but anticipation of success. It is up to an educator to ensure that they instill confidence in the students, regarding their abilities in whatever field they hope to pursue, instead of offering them unconstructive criticism (Bransford & National Research Council, 2001). I understand that if my student’s prosper, I will have lived a fulfilled life.

My passion for teaching is closely tied to a deeper understanding of the role that school plays in children’s lives. In the article titled, ‘Teachers vs. Educators: Which Are You?’ by Starr Sackstein, the author notes that, “I’d like to give a little shout out to a few educators who have helped shape me as the person, writer, and educator I hope to become (Sackstein, 2016).” This clearly shows that educators do more than just impact knowledge on their students, but rather they shape them into individuals that they know they can become in the future.

Reflection refers to the process of quite thought and is closely tied with the need to become a better individual in all aspects of one’s life. I enjoy reading and constantly learning and I think as an educator, this will be my greatest strengths. Through the process of reflection, I will be able to capitalize on these strengths, and understand and rectify my weaknesses. I will also constantly be after innovative ways to enhance the learning experience of my student’s, so that they not only gather knowledge needed to pass examinations, but also learn more about themselves and what they really want in life.

It is the role of educators to ensure that they encourage their students and steer them in the right direction. Educators play an important role in their student’s lives, especially at a young age, where students tend to hold onto information that they receive. An educator has immense passion for their role and responsibility, and are constantly in pursuit of improving themselves, through reflection and reading. I believe that I will be a great educator because I have a passion for helping children, I enjoy the learning process, and as an individual, I am constantly seeking to enhance myself.
