Marley Catona, Recruiting Officer

Bank on Me

555 New York Avenue

New York, NY 10022

Dear Ms. Catona:

With great enthusiasm, I am applying for the Finance Management Trainee job at Bank on Me. This position will build on my work experience, education, and skills and will allow me to contribute to your organization in a management capacity. Below, I describe how my background matches the requirements of the position.

Education Requirements

After working full time for two years after high school, I returned to school and will complete my associate’s degree at LaGuardia Community College in May. I have taken two finance courses: Introduction to Finance and Personal Financial Management. Although my overall GPA is currently 3.2, my average from these finance courses is 3.6.

I would like to continue my education and pursue a bachelor’s degree. Ideally, the company I join will offer a generous tuition assistance program.

Finance-Related Experience

Last summer, I interned in the Audit department of Ernst & Young. I participated in audits for two Fortune 500 companies and was an integral part of the team. My manager was impressed that I developed macros in Microsoft Excel to automate some of our data entry and error checking. I was proud of these accomplishments and also received positive feedback after my summer-end presentation to management. This position confirmed my desire to pursue a career in finance.

My other financial experience is in managing budgets for two school clubs and my own business.

Leadership Experience

For two years, I have managed my own custom bracelet company. As CEO and president, I am responsible for product design, inventory management, sales, budgeting, marketing, and customer service. I continue to receive orders and manage this business part time while I’m in school.

My interest in starting my own business inspired me to join the Young Entrepreneurs Club in high school. After a year in the club, I ran and was elected president. We started an after-school program where students met with local business owners and could ask questions about their success.

Other Skills

I also have the following skills, which I understand are required for the position:

· Conversational Spanish: I took two years of Spanish in high school

· Microsoft Excel: I use Excel for my bracelet business and developed macros at Ernst & Young

· Strong Communication Skills: I look forward to demonstrating these in an interview

· Excellent Attention to Detail: I hope this is evidenced by my cover letter and attached résumé.

Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this position. I will call you in a few days to follow up and make personal contact. If you would prefer, you can call me at (212) 555-3947 or e-mail me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Catherine L. Lin
