Introduction
There is no doubt that it took the director of this movie and producer Lucas film sleepless nights to produce the film but finally, Solo: A Star War Story is finally with us and has been watched by millions of people all over the world. The arrival of the movie finally brings the first glimpse of the young Han’s trailer that comes early enough before the original trilogy. The film brings the memories of Chewie, Donald Glover Emilia Clarke and the famous Woody Harrelson in the minds of the audience (Matthews, 2018). It is not surprising that the movie is a hit to most of the movie lovers as there is a falcon though its look in this film is a bit weird and surprising as well as the star destroyer. There are TIE fighters and other vehicles that are trying to find their way in a strange and unknown world’s streets that connect the parts of the city. There is no doubt that everyone watching this movie will be happy to hear the master of the film Alden Ehrenreich making his speech as the leading smuggler all over the world. If anything is to go by, the posturing and actions of the Alden cannot be compared to anyone’s when entertainment is the required outcomes of the actions.
Han (Alden Ehrenreich) and His Girlfriend and Partner-In-Crime Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke) Together
As the film begins just 3 minutes into the film, we meet young Han and the girlfriend Qira in the same cruiser driving at a high speed. The two lovers and partners in crime are at a mining planet that has several industries and several people who work as forced laborers. The introduction highlights some of children involved in the labor activities, narrow streets. There are visuals of charcoal-smudged alleys and hard-bitten street urchins with English accents add up to high-tech Charles Dickens (Matthews, 2018). It is in this scene that we see Han signing up to become navy imperial but is relegated to the infantry. It is in this scene that Han meet with his future smuggling partner Thandie Newton (Val).
There are several visual of suicidal cavalries and muddy streets that are indicated as they were in the period of the World War 1. This scene is very interesting as it is through that the film rather the director introduce the audience to the real story of the movie. The entire environment of the planet where the film was acted is visualized for the audience to see (Matthews, 2018). The director is able to display high level of film directing tactics in this scene and put the minds of the viewers in a somber mode. Well, the director could not have done something good than this setting and it is in this scene that the relationship between Qira and Han is well portrayed.
Han Fussing With a Control Panel
Six minutes into the film, it is the first scene in which Han is seen fusing with the control panel of the plane. It is in this scene that Han is scene powering on the falcon and start moving the engine. Watching the movie and comparing the images of the falcon with others indicates that Han must have been one of the most talented people with vast knowledge of navigating the panel of the falcon (Matthews, 2018). It is in this scene that Han explains how he has been running the scam on the streets since he was 10 years. The scene shows Han zipping through the streets in a form of landspeeder Han was forced to become a thief after he was orphaned and it is through his criminal; activities that he was able to survive in his hometown of Corellia.
It is not clear though in this scene if the speeding falcon that Han is driving with Qira was used to represent Corellia but your guess is same as mine. It is in this scene that the ability of the main character in the film Han to make swift decisions is experienced. His mastership of driving the falcon is well illustrated in this scene (Matthews, 2018). It is at this point that the idea that the movie director will show Hans home becomes very clear and indicates the mastery of the movie director in creating the best scenes in the movie that are not only attractive but symbolic in all means. The scene is imperative in movie setting as it immediately indicates how the planning was done in a corrugated manner.
Troopers Giving Chase to Han and Qi'ra
This scene is very enjoyable as we see troopers chasing Han and Qira just 14 minutes in to the film. It is not very clear whether the troopers are imperials or whether they are Corellian guards or are law enforcers from another planet. It is very clear from personal view point that the armored car is in form of chrome which indicates clearly that the people chasing Han and Qira are not from the empire (Matthews, 2018). The helmet that the toppers were wearing did not also look like a helmet that is used by the storm troopers though. It is interesting to note that Han went to the aviation academy and he was thrown out because he did not agree with the ideologies of the people at the academy.
Although it is clear that Han puts it clear that he was thrown out of the academy, the movie director does not give enough light on the reasons themselves but make it as a blanket reason. It is also very confusing that Han as a character in this scene flied for the empire before he was thrown out. It does not make much sense to me as if he was thrown out of the academy, how was he able to fly for the empire yet he was not a qualified pilot (Matthews, 2018). Han seems to have been placed in an environment that he is not familiar with in this film as we see him putting on a fur coat that may him problems with Chewie. This is one way to explain how the director of the film was determined to give the audience the best of the trilogy in the process.
Insight of pre-Original Trilogy Millennium Falcon
Well just 19 minutes into the film, the director gives the audience first view of the inside of the pre-original trilogy falcon. The walls of the falcon look very new and very clean. One may have though that Han is going to meet the ship in a brand new estate. Later in this scene, there are some shots which confirm the assumption proves it beyond reasonable doubt. The trailer director places significant grey areas in the film (Matthews, 2018). The grey light almost made the film not to have the appealing color. It is through the greyness that Han has chances to admire the outside of his falcon. It is here that the audience again gets the chances to see Han and Qira together. It is in this scene that Qira and Han are seen on the show of the sea walking handy towards the admirable structure.
There is no doubt that this movie was acted some ten years before the invention of the falcon as it was during the battle of Yavin that the falcon was invented. The structure looks very huge and it can be compared to the defense tower in this movie. It is very interesting to see how the director use cinematography and camera tricks to illuminate the film and make it more interesting in the light of the greyness (Matthews, 2018). It is through the greyness that Han has chances to admire the outside of his falcon. It is here that the audience again gets the chances to see the two lovebirds in unity and with peace of mind.
The dressing style and appearance of Qira
One of the most important characters in this film is Qira as she played a leading role. She appears wearing very expensive clothes in the 27 minute of the film. She is the wife to Han and they seem to have a common chemistry. The appearance and the dressing code of Qira also help the audience to understand the character of Clarke. Qira was the long girlfriend of Han in the film and is from a very wealthy family. It is through this character that we notice that Han is living in the planet Ylesia because he is hiding from Shrike and it is here that Han and Qira meet.
The decision that Han made to hide from Shrike must be appreciated. It is very clear that he could not have achieved his goals if he could have not hid from Shrike since Shrike was planning to kill him. In this regard, most of the people may argue that hiding was a sign of cowardice. However, this is not the case as his decision to behave as a coward enabled him to survive as his enemies could not know where he was and what he is planning (Matthews, 2018). In this regard, it is important that leaders keep their cards next to their chests. Most of the leaders who are assertive may not be able to achieve their goals. It is because of this that people have to become less-assertive if they want to achieve their goals as leaders and as managers.
Meet Tobias Beckett
The film becomes more enjoyable as we finally meet rather as Tobias Beckett is introduced in the 31 minutes who become a mentor to Han in the film. It is in this scene that we see Beckett putting up a crew which Han later come to join to form a band of thieves. Most of the people who love movies are of the views that Beckett resembles another character in the movie The Paradise Snare who was known as Garris Shrike (Matthews, 2018). Whether this is true or not remains to be seen as time goes on and it is not important in this review. Shrike is the guy who raised Han after he lost his parents among other orphans who he later trained to become his thieves. It is in this scene that accounts of how Han escaped from Trader’s Luck to join the imperial academy are given.
It is in this scene that Han showed his cognitive ability to think and act independently. He showed his independence when he left the Luck and joined the imperial academy. The plot by Shrike to kill Ham though failed indicates how he was a determined man to keep Han using all means. It was very wise of Han to leave Shrike and join the academy as this was not only a bold move but was also courageous of him (Matthews, 2018). It is very clear in the movie that Beckett will follow in the same footsteps as Shrike since Han and Becket have a history together though it appeared as if they are meeting for the very first time. This scene is very interesting as it reveals a lot about Han, Shrike and Beckett.
Han Walking In the Game of Sabacc
There is no doubt that his determination to win the falcon becomes the central theme of the movie and the movie’s storyline as it is very clear in 45 minute of the film. It is important that the director with much zeal was able to use his style and technique to show the determination by Han. To me, one of the most important scenes in the film is to see Han walk the hard way in on the game of sabacc as he moves towards winning the falcon. There is an image of Lando in the scene who can be spotted standing in a distant it is in this scene that Han is now ready to ask the thieves to stand with him and help him win the falcon (Matthews, 2018). One concept that come out clearly from this scene is that courage and determination is very important in life. Although Han is sure that he may be risking his life, he is determined to achieve what he wants in life to win the falcon. He is able to gain courage and take in the thieves as he walk towards winning the falcon.
There is no doubt that his determination to win the falcon becomes the central theme of the movie and the movie’s storyline. It is important that the director with much zeal was able to use his style and technique to show the determination by Han. It is in this scene that leadership concept of courage is well displayed (Matthews, 2018). Han was able to walk his way towards winning the falcon after he was able to gather the courage and walk past the thieves and went on to win the falcon. It is his courage that made him the star he was in the film and make him the most important character in the film.
Appearance of Thandie Newton in the Film
The appearance of Thandie in the 57 minute of the film was very important to the continuity of the film. She took up the role of Sana who was the first wife to Han in the recent Marvel comic (Matthews, 2018). Thandie is a very important character in this film and her appearance is very significant towards the achievement of Han’s goals in the film. Although she was not very common in the film, she display different characteristics throughout the film that shows how working as a team is very important.
Teamwork is very important concept in management and leadership as it is through combined efforts that one can easily achieve the organizational goals. The efforts by Thandie and Han in the film helped Han to become victorious at the end of the film. Similarly, Thandie in this film seems to be suffering from internal locus of control. Different people interpret their information on failure differently. It is because of this that actions by Thandie in the film to help Han achieve his goals was like she was admitting to her failures (Matthews, 2018). Her decision to help was very important and it is because of this that she can be described as decisive person. The relationship between Thandie and Han also introduces the concept of cohesion which is very important in organizational management and leadership. Although they may have had their own motive to collaborate, it is very clear that their coming together changed a lot of things.
Lando Accept Losing the Falcon to Han in the Game of Sabacc
Well, it will be a dead analysis of Solo film if the young Lando is not mentioned in the film analysis. The young Lando appears in several scenes but his appearance in the 60th minute of the film was instrumental. His appearance and dressing code in the film is very important as it displays a character that is very confident. He plays his role as a muster and as someone who understands his role completely (Matthews, 2018). There is no doubt that his style and ability in the movie make him to be loved the more. One of the most important characteristic of a leader is someone who is confident. Leaders must be very confident people so that they can live their dreams and achieve their goals.
Confidence is exactly what Lando has and it is because of this that he is able to play his role with any second thought. Similarly, Lando is charismatic. Any person who want to be a good leader must prove to be charismatic. Although young Lando loses the falcon to Han, he proved to be very confident throughout the entire film (Matthews, 2018). It is because of his confidence and charisma that he was able to face the challenge from Han on the game of sabacc. Young Lando in this scene accepts the results of the challenge when he lost to Han. This indicates that he is a person who accepts his responsibilities and is accountable to his actions.
Han and Chewie at the Beach
The last scene of the film is very interesting. It is in this scene that we see Han and Chewie together for the first time. The scene shows the two walking at the beach Chewie holding Han on the shoulders. It is not clear whether it is the same beach that was seen in the first scene when Han was Walking at the beach with Qira or not. Appearance of Chewie and Han at the beach is a clear indication that He is someone who takes time after work to appreciate his achievements and appreciate other people. Leaders rather people need to understand that it is not only work that matters the most (Matthews, 2018). They have to take time and rest after long working hours. It also allow them to reflect on what they have achieved thus far and plan on how to go about in the future. Han had just been involved in gruesome exercise and after such an exercise, taking time off is important and taking his friend too indicates that he value other people.
Reflection One
After watching and analyzing the film Solo: A Star Wars Story, I was able to learn several managerial development concepts that I have covered so far in class. The film is full of developmental concepts from the beginning to the last scene (Whetten & Cameron, 2016).. The main characters Han, Young Lando and Shrike are involved in several mind stimulating games that portray their intelligence. Han is a very determined man who is stopping at nothing to achieve his goals. His enemy Shrike is also determined to ensure that Han is down at all costs. Han’s ability to overcome stressful events and work under extreme pressure to achieve his goals is something that no one can forget more so in the realms of management. Han is able to use his ability to understand himself and life long experience, skills and survival techniques to overcome his problems.
Han is able to make up his mind to leave Trader’s Luck and join the imperial navy despite the opposition that he was facing from his guardian who raised him as an orphan and made him become a thief. This taught me a lot that we cannot let fate to determine our destiny but we should use our creativity and decision-making approaches to overcome hurdles and shape our future. This is an indication that the power to shape our future is in our hand and we cannot let other people do it for us but do it ourselves. I have realized that focus should not be on the huge goals and plans but focus should be given to the process of setting goals and working towards achieving the simple goals as one way of developing.
Reflection Two
Most of the people have criticized the movie Solo: A Star War Story, but after watching the film, I have realized that the movie is very important in management perspective. The story is of a young man who is determined to shape his future irrespective of the past. Han portrays the efforts of a young man who is shaping his future despite the fact that he was raised as an orphan and trained as a thief. Analysis of the movie indicates how the management development concept in the course book are very important (Whetten & Cameron, 2016).. The ideas in the film are very important as they help people to understand management concepts as they develop. The movie clearly indicates how people can build on their strength and overcome their weaknesses in life.
The first point is that it is an essential base within management skills development through building self-awareness because it could help individuals to learn to improve their strengths and weakness. The movie helps us to understand that having personal rather self-awareness is very important as it does not only help people to be what they want to be but also help Us to push our efforts and become better people in the future. Stress management and emotional intelligence is very important in life. This is because most of the people who are able to manage their emotions and improve on self-awareness are likely to overcome problems even in very difficult situations (Whetten & Cameron, 2016).. It is very important to manage personal anger and have self-control. In this film, Han is able to overcome several obstacles because he had self-control and self-awareness. Lack of self-awareness and control cause impartial thinking which may result to poor decision-making process.
Reflection Three
There is no doubt that all people in life will need to have some managerial skills in life. As such, developing managerial competency is very important in life. As such, it is important that people get skills that can help them to become better managers in the future. Challenges are not synonymous in life and people have to manage such challenges. A film Solo: A Star War Story is very important as after watching it, I have been able to develop skills and management competency as compared to the past (Whetten & Cameron, 2016).. Through the efforts that are reflected through the main actor Han, it is very clear that understanding our weaknesses is the first thing that we need to do if we have to be good managers in the future.
In this movie, the idea of cognitive development as the base of management is discussed in length. It is imperative that people develop their thinking capabilities as one way of enhancing their management skills. It is through his cognitive ability that Han is able to make the decision to join the military and abandon the idea of being a thief that he was trained to be. It is because of his thinking capabilities that he was able to make up his mind and move to planet and run away from Shrike who was plotting to kill him.
The significance of tolerance of ambiguity is well explained in this movie. There is no other important thing in life other than having tolerance of ambiguity. It is one of the best management skills than anyone can want in life. Expertise in different fields in life is also very important in life of person and it is because of this that Han is able to overcome the obstacles that he faced in life and emerged successful later in life.
Reflection Four
Well, it is very important to be keen when analyzing books and other media materials. This is because most of the materials that people come across are very important learning materials. Analysis of the film Solo: A Star War Story indicates how people can gain significantly from movies such as this one (Whetten & Cameron, 2016).. After watching this film, I have been able to understand that people need management concepts to overcome hurdles in life and manage other people.
Han was able to win the falcon in the game of sabacc because he was able to use his cognitive thinking to make decisions that helped him become a good person in life. He was able to use his cognitive ability to overcome the traps of death that Shrike had set as a way to kill him. He was able to win against young Lando because he was able to think proactively and play the game better than his competitors. Han was able to use his problem solving skills to triumph over his enemies. Most of the people will agree with me that management is not exactly like war but management requires proactive thinking which is important in overcoming hurdles in the war activities.
It is important for students and other people to understand that it is not easy to develop managerial skills. However, they can acquire skills that are very important in life by critically analyzing things that are around them (Whetten & Cameron, 2016).. A film such as Solo: A Star War Story and reviewing them critically is very important in life. People should not take media materials that are around as for granted as they are always something to learn from them.
Conclusion
The arrival of the movie, Solo: A Star War Story finally brings the first glimpse of the young Han’s trailer that comes early enough before the original trilogy. The film brings the memories of Chewie, Donald Glover Emilia Clarke and the famous Woody Harrelson in the minds of the audience. It is not surprising that the movie is a hit to most of the movie lovers as there is a falcon though its look in this film is a bit weird and surprising as well as the star destroyer. The movie helps us to understand that having personal rather self-awareness is very important as it does not only help people to be what they want to be but also help Us to push our efforts and become better people in the future. It is important for students and other people to understand that it is not easy to develop managerial skills. However, they can acquire skills that are very important in life by critically analyzing things that are around them. A film such as Solo: A Star War Story and reviewing them critically is very important in life. People should not take media materials that are around as for granted as they are always something to learn from them. Stress management and emotional intelligence is very important in life. This is because most of the people who are able to manage their emotions and improve on self-awareness are likely to overcome problems even in very difficult situations.
