What are the responsibilities of community and public health nurses in promoting health and decreasing illness and injury in populations, families, and individuals? Provide specific examples from your community.

Community and public health nurses are responsible for promoting, protecting, and maintaining 'health' to prevent diseases and disorders and create an environment in which people can become healthy. They should reduce the incidence of community diseases and deaths by providing treatment for patients and education on maintaining the health to community members and the public. Also, they give hand-out fliers, conduct health screenings, manage medications, and administer immunizations. Examples of health problems that community and public health nurses are trying to control or eliminate in the community include obesity, malnutrition, and teenage pregnancy.

One of the areas a community and public health nurses focus on are promoting health and disease prevention in the community. One of the things they do is education. They give all the necessary information to the people of the community about the necessary things they can do to remain healthy and decrease the chances of being ill. Another effort they can do is advocating for patients in the community such as ensuring resources are enough for the community (“The Role of Nurses”, 2020).

 

Some of the examples from my community are educating patients about having a healthy lifestyle such as smoking cessation, healthy diet and exercise, and educating parents about vaccines. With the right information and reinforcement, people of the community would be able to live a healthier life.
