Hello Professor and class,
After reviewing the FEMA website, I found a lot of the information to be helpful for disaster preparedness. What I found most helpful for the community nurse was under the tab "Emergency Management". There was plenty there to explore such as preparedness for individuals, communities, national disasters, and planning tools. What I found to be most helpful for the PHN was the hazard mitigation planning which is located under the "Risk Management" tab. I chose that because it gives detailed information on how to plan for hazards and minimize the loss and damage. It also gives information on policies related to the issue and explains how to apply for grants as well. The hazard mitigation sector helps you identify risks according to the part of the country you are in (FEMA, 2020). After identifying the hazard, a plan is put in place to reduce harm to people and businesses, and plans for breaking the cycle of damage and reconstruction are put in place (FEMA, 2020).

Hello Prof and class,
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has an emphasis on helping and guidance on how to respond to emergencies. The website provides a large array of data that can be helpful when preparing an emergency plan for public health nurses to use. The Community Lifelines Implementation Toolkit could be most useful to public health nurses. A lifeline helps vital government and business functions to run continuously and is necessary for human health and safety or for economic stability. Lifelines are the most basic community facilities that enable all other facets of society to work when stabilized ("Community lifelines," 2020). The Community Lifeline toolkit offers information and advice on how to respond and efficiently work to stabilize the community after the disaster. It is true that, without establishing plans and services, stabilizing the community after a disaster can be difficult. I therefore assume that one of the significant tools public health nurses can use in their practices is the use of the Community Lifeline tool kit. FEMA created Community Lifelines to reframe information about incidents, understand and communicate impacts of incidents using plain language, and foster unity of effort across the entire community to prioritize actions during incident response to stabilize the lifelines ("Community lifelines," 2020).
