This will be the introduction of the memo. Paragraphs should be single-spaced with no indent. Between each paragraph, include one blank line.
Using a numbered list is appropriate, and can often help strengthen organization:
1. You can either list out each point and expand on them in their own paragraphs below.
2. Or you can add enough detail that the numbered list becomes the body of the memo.
3. If the content of the list is extensive (i.e. three or more lines of text per number), add a single blank line between each item.
4. If each item is only one or two lines in length, though, maintain single-spacing.
If your list isn’t sequential, feel free to use bullet points or hyphens instead:
· The same formatting rules described in the numbered section would apply here.
· If your list of items exceeds 5, consider combining points or condensing the text accompanying each one.
· Remember that the goal of the internal memo is to accomplish a specific task within a short-form business document meant for everyday use.
Conclusions for an internal memo are similar to conclusions for academic essays. You can either re-state the purpose of your memo, emphasize the importance of its contents, or provide an explanation for what will happen next. In any case, be sure to include some sort of opportunity for your audience to reply, like: “Contact me via e-mail if you have any questions.”
