Instructions: Complete each problem on a separate worksheet in a single Excel file. Rename the separate worksheets with the respective problem number. You may have to copy and paste the datasets into your homework file first. Name the file with your last name, first initial, and HW #9. Label each part of the question. When calculating statistics, label your outputs. Submit your completed file in Blackboard. If not significance level is specified, assume 5%.
1. The file 310homework9data.xlsx, problem #1 data contains data on automobile manufacturer who employs sales representatives who make calls on dealers. The manufacturer wishes to compare the effectiveness of four different call-frequency plans for the sales representatives. Thirty-two representatives are chosen at random from the sales force and randomly assigned to the four call plans for six months, and their sales for the 6-month study period are recorded. Do the sample data support the hypothesis that at least one of the calls plans helps produce a higher average level of sales? Perform an appropriate statistical test and report a P-value.
2. The file 310homework9data.xlsx in Problem #2 contains data hotel customers. A manager would like to know whether customers who pay by different methods have different-sized bills. She divides the customers into four categories: those who pay by cash or check, those who pay by VISA or MasterCard, those who pay with American Express, and those who pay with some other card. She then collects data on daily bills, listed in the file. Note that these are bills that contain room charge, plus any other charges to the customer’s account. Test whether the different categories of customers have different-sized bills at the 10% level.
