Illnesses linked to Toxic chemicals
Based upon the research of the National Center for Biotechnology Information , U.S. National Library of Medicine , pesticides can cause different scenarios to happen, in which people will be more prone to get cancer. “Children and pregnant women exposure to pesticides was positively associated with the cancers studied in some studies, and also parents who was exposure to pesticides at work” (PMC). This is a proof that many chemicals are infecting our food and for the same reason we do not have a safety diet in our regular days. This study also found a relation with prostate, brain, and kidney cancer. The study found the elevated risk of NHL with several classes of pesticides; including “dicamba, mecoprop (both commonly used weed-killers available in hardware stores) and carbamate as insecticide.” Also, was found individual compounds as herbicides “glyphosate and MCPA (2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid)” (PMC). This is one reason in which the government must implement more regulation about the toxic chemicals with pesticides and track the health consequences of the chemicals, and protect the health of the people in USA.
The report of CNN by Nadia Kounang “dangerous chemicals hiding in everyday products” talks about the dangerous chemicals in the work place, at home, and out in the environment; with the result of “neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism and attention- deficit disorders”. Scientist and doctors agree that the toxic chemicals can harm brain development. Some of these chemicals can be carcinogenic or wreak havoc with our hormones, and our body’s regulating system. These everyday chemicals, including organophosphates pesticides, flame retardants and phthalates, can be found in food, plastics, furniture, food wrap, cookware, cans, carpets, shower curtains, electronics and even shampoo. They are everywhere around us. “Polybrominated diphenyl ethers is associated with thyroid issues. Organophosphates pesticides result with higher rates of attention –deficit hyperactivity disorder” (CNN). Another problem is the air pollution from burning fossil fuels, such as coal, oil or gas is usually associated with respiratory issues. This include dioxide, formaldehyde and benzene. The higher exposure in the air pollutants is associated with congenital heart defects.
For these reasons the government has to regulate more these toxic chemicals, and make sure that the public health has to be safe with the entire product we consume.
In the claim investigation by The Department of Toxic Substances Control, a study provided a report of whether potentially harmful chemicals could be found in available nail products. These products were found in about 48,000 nail salons. Exposing oneself to such chemicals in nail salon products is associated with higher risks of cancer. Some of the exposure toxic chemicals found are “dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene, and formaldehyde, that are health and safety concerns. As a result, to the study of these chemicals, people need to be alert about what chemicals are being absorbed into their bodies. And this is another reason in which the government must enforce really strict regulations as well show more advertisements about this problem.
