3.4 Assignment. Leader2Leader - Questions

Getting Started

Two leaders in dialogue

In the 3.3 Discussion Forum, you had a chance to suggest potential ideas for interview questions to ask another leader about leading a team. Questions or comments from your peers and instructor helped refine those questions. In this assignment, you turn in your final revised set of questions.

Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

· Develop a list of questions to ask a leader that will lead to obtaining new knowledge and skills related to leading through communication.

Instructions

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2. Now that you have received feedback from your peers and you instructor on your potential questions, submit an outline that includes:

a. Name and title of the interviewee (who you will have your Leader2Leader dialogue with) as well as the names of interviewees from your previous Leader2Leader Dialogues in the LDR205, 220, 260, 305, 320, 365, 370, 385, 405, and 410 courses. In order to obtain a variety of perspectives, you are expected to interview as many different individuals as possible over the course of this program.

b. Date, time and method (Zoom, Skype, FaceTime…) planned for conducting the dialogue. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to complete the interview. If you have not completed the scheduling yet, share your timeline/plan for conducting the interview.

c. A set of 7-10 questions or discussion starters.

i. Questions should not be simple “Yes” – “No” questions but should allow the leader you selected to provide thoughtful explanations that will contribute to your understanding of the topic.

ii. Questions should display variety, not focusing on one or two topics. Be sure to take time to review what you have learned this week and during the earlier workshops.  Note: When you write your executive summary, clearly connect each question to a principle represented in the course material.

iii. Describe two or three substantive changes you made to your question set due to the conversations in the discussion forum and why you believe those changes were helpful.

iv. Keep in mind the dialogue should be 30 minutes or less. So, you may not have time to ask all the questions you develop. Consider how you arrange or outline the questions. What flow exists between the questions? Which ones are most essential? What ones might serve as follow-up questions?

3. Submit your interview outline using the Assignment submission link on Day 7 of the workshop, making sure to adjust the questions based on feedback from your peers and instructor.

4. After you receive feedback on your interview questions, you will need to conduct your interview ideally during Workshop Four, before you work on the  5.3 Discussion (new tab) . Please schedule your interview accordingly.
