3.4 - Assignment: Aircraft and Airport Familiarization Analysis
3.4 - Assignment: Aircraft and Airport Familiarization Analysis (PLG1)
ARFF personnel are required to be trained on aircraft and airport familiarization, to expedite response time and to be familiar with terrain and other hazards that could impede response. Given the airport you visited/researched (LAS VEGAS INTERNATIONAL), demonstrate the application of both airport and aircraft familiarization, as applicable to Airport Rescue Fire Fighting training and protocols.
We are using LAS VEGAS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT…
First, referring to Boeing (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. , Airbus (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. , or other aircraft familiarization resources such as Technical Order 00-105E-9 and STANAG 3896 - Aerospace Emergency Rescue and Mishap Response Information (Links to an external site.) or or ICAO Rescue and Firefighting Crash Charts (Links to an external site.) , select an aircraft common to an airport you researched(LAS VEGAS), and discuss the components on which the ARFF must be trained. Provide examples of hazards that exist for ARFF response on this specific aircraft.
Second, briefly discuss the layout of an airport you researched, with respect to ARFF operations. Include the location of the ARFF facility(ies) in relation to runways, taxiways, and non-movement areas, and how this design can impact response routes for ARFF personnel and vehicles. Specifically, what is the topography and where are important structures, objects, and terrain anomalies that may impede or assist response (e.g. non-frangible fences)? What hazards are present, such as fuel storage facilities?
