3.3 Leader-Talk Prep
Getting Started
Now that you and your peers have had an opportunity to view each other’s interview questions and offer feedback, it is time to incorporate the feedback and revise your questions. Based on the feedback received in Discussion 3.2., revise your Leader2Leader questions and submit them to the professor for their feedback.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
· Incorporate course concepts into leader interview.
· Inquire how they have fostered this learning and overcome associated barriers.
· Analyze how another leader has led change in their organization
· Apply that learning to leading change.
· Inquire of another leader as to their innovative approaches to organizational change.
Instructions
1. In preparation for your dialogue, submit an executive summary containing the following:
a. Title page in APA format (Title, name, course, date)
b. Name and title of the interviewee (who you will have your Leader2Leader dialogue with).
c. Date, time, and method (Zoom, Skype, FaceTime…) planned for conducting the dialogue.
d. A revised set of 7–10 questions or discussion starters from this week’s material on how a specific leader engages in organizational change, barriers to change, innovation, and organizational learning.
e. List of previous interviewed leaders.
2. Questions should not be simple “Yes” – “No” questions but should allow the leader you selected to provide thoughtful explanations that will contribute to your understanding of the topic.
3. Questions should display variety, not focusing on one or two topics. Be sure to take time to review what you have learned this week and during the earlier workshops. Note: When you write your executive summary, clearly connect each question to a principle represented in the course material.
4. Your executive summary can be written in the form of an outline.
5. Keep in mind the dialogue should be 30 minutes or less. So, you may not have time to ask all the questions you develop. Consider how you arrange or outline the questions.
a. What flow exists between the questions?
b. What ones are the most essential?
c. What ones might serve as follow-up questions?
Note: After you receive feedback from your instructor on your interview questions, it is highly encouraged that you conduct your interview early in Workshop Four so that you can allow yourself enough time to work on the report due at the end of Workshop Five.
