1.) Kats, R. (2020, September 14). Love in the time of the coronavirus: how dating is becoming more virtual amid the pandemic. Business Insider. https://www.businessinsider.com/dating-apps-growing-becoming-more-virtual-amid-pandemic-2020-9.
Popular source. I located this source by being on google and searching “online dating through the pandemic”. Finding sources was a little tricky because I just kept seeing repetitive statistics.
2.) 31 Major Pros & Cons Of Online Dating You Should Know. E&C. (2021, May 2). https://environmental-conscience.com/online-dating-pros-cons/. Popular source. I located this source by simply searching “ pros and cons of online dating”. I wanted to use this source to let people know that it isn’t always simple to date.
3.) Barrada JR, Castro Á. Tinder Users: Sociodemographic, Psychological, and Psychosexual Characteristics. Int J Environ Res Public Health. 2020 Oct 31;17(21):8047. doi: 10.3390/ijerph17218047. PMID: 33142900; PMCID: PMC7662763.
Scholarly source. This source was located by me searching “dating apps and new media”. It is extremely informative. This study was done to see if it could be figured out on why young people use Tinder.
4.) Sumter, S. R., & Vandenbosch, L. (2019). Dating gone mobile: Demographic and personality-based correlates of using smartphone-based dating applications among emerging adults. New Media & Society, 21(3), 655–673. https://doi.org/10.1177/1461444818804773
Scholarly source. I was able to find this article by searching up “new media and society in scholarly articles”. A lot of my references were pinged by searching “dating apps” so I wanted to plug in new media into one or two of them to see what I am able to come across. Existing studies largely focused on explaining the use of dating technology and often ignored the fact that people can differ in their reasons for using dating apps.
5.) Anderson, M., Vogels, E. A., & Turner, E. (2020, October 2). The Virtues and Downsides of Online Dating. Pew Research Center: Internet, Science & Tech. https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2020/02/06/the-virtues-and-downsides-of-online-dating/.
Scholarly source. Using dating apps don’t always have good results. A lot of young teens report being harassed or received explicit pictures from users. I want to add this to my project to really inform users to simply be safe.
