I chose to discuss the image on page 127. This image shows a family traveling together in an automobile. While the driver is concentrating on operating his car, the three other family members are occupied with their phones. The stated claim is the text: "Road trips are getting lonelier and lonelier." The warrant for this is the image of three family members on their phones. This links to the claim and support by showing all four passengers quietly engaged in their own universe instead of having a conversation, or if it's a long road trip, singing songs or playing games to help pass the time.

I chose to analyze the cartoon on page 127 in which the claim is not directly stated but is implied. The implied claim is that technology is straining interpersonal relationships which can be concluded by the thought cloud of the man driving. He is thinking that road trips are getting lonelier and the cartoon depicts everyone in the car focused on their phones. The warrant is that the use of cell phones and other technologies is damaging to relationships, in this case it has negatively impacted family time in the form of a road trip. The backing is obvious in the society we live in where technology thrives and personal interaction is dwindling away. This was a convincing image, because I do feel that people need to remember to "unplug" sometimes to maintain healthy interpersonal relationships.
