Lesson 3 Forum/"Flag Protection: A Brief History of Recent Supreme Court Decisions

The main issue in this article is whether or not the burning of the American Flag is an act of free speech protected by the First Amendment. The author of the article has an unbiased attitude towards the issue by writing on both sides and showing pictures that demonstrate pro-flag and anti-flag viewpoints. The author's intention in this article is to explain the history behind flag burning and to get us to think for ourselves on whether the recent Supreme Court decisions on flag burning are constitutional or unconstitutional. There was no common ground that I can identify with this author as their intent was to inform us about flag burning without strongly leaning to any side of the issue.

When Texting is Wrong - Randy Cohen

The main issue in the article is texing and the argument is young generation believe there is no harm texting and old generation believe it is a problem. The author's attitudes toward the subject at issue is when it comes to texting, there is no authentic consent, and there is genuine harm. The author wants to explain both groups merely adapt to the culture they find themselves in, ofhten without questioning or even being consciously aware of its norms. That's acquiescence, not agreement. The author has states the examples to support his point of view such as the issue of residents of Williamsburg in VA, driver in Massachusetts, and Patti LuPhone show in Las Vegas. I agree with author's point which is when you injure yourself, that is unfortunate; when you injure someone else, you are unethical.
