The article’s central theme is the worsening income inequality situation in America, creating a massive gap between the rich and the poor. Single-parent families appear to be poor than homes that have both parents. The problem has not changed since the 1970s, with the employment of American women increasing the income inequality gap in the same year (Burtless, 2016). The article also blames trade for the inequality situation in America, which primarily affects unskilled workers. International unskilled workers have taken up jobs in the American market, creating a massive gap between the natives and immigrants. The article connects to class teachings because it covers the socio-economic issues many people face daily. The report is an interesting piece because it captures the trend of income equality throughout American history, explaining how and why the gap is increasing. I want the article to discuss how gender and racism create and increase income inequality in the country.
