One of the biggest obstacles I feared the most was the amount of time that this term was going to require. I also feared the current state of our country and world and how it would place additional burdens and stresses on my life, both personal and work related. The syllabus appeared quite daunting and it was. I am not an expert writer and I struggle to put the thoughts in my brain to paper in a way that makes sense. I struggle with lengthy papers because I feel that I am repeating info as the paper progresses. 

At any rate, the time involved was as much as I thought it was going to be and it was a bit harder this term. Another fear was the unknown of some aspects of the paper not being in my comfort zone—abstracts, literature review, etc. but I muscled through it.

If I had to do it all over again, as in the entire program, I wish I would have organized each terms material a little better. I had a lot of good stuff but there are times in this term and in my work life where I wondered “ dang, where did I learn that and where can I find that information again”? I should have labeled each assignment with key terms and I should have summarized key learnings along the way. About halfway through I recognized the importance of some key terms, phrases, theories, and perspectives and I started keeping a journal and adding to it. I do this now and continued this for work and conferences I go to. It is a wealth of tidbits, quotes, and key terms that I think all managers should know and I try not to forget.

Week 7 Discussion 2 "A Look Back: Part I"

My concerns were unjustified, and while the research is in depth, I have learned a lot during this process. However, I did find that it was somewhat difficult to find information that was related to leaders being ineffective in healthcare. Being an ineffective leader is the topic of my project, and while I found information that was resourceful and helpful, but most of the information I found addressed ineffectiveness in healthcare. The words of wisdom that I would impart to students who are just beginning this course is use your time wisely by taking at least 2-3 hours daily to focus on and to gather reliable and credible information for the project. My concern was putting in the proper amount of time daily to produce an effective ePortfolio. When I first started this class, the needed information was overwhelming, but as I started to gather the information while following the outline, I was able to move forward with collecting quality and effective information. So, utilizing your time and the outline is imperative to the success of the project.
