Respond to two (2) Colleagues D2W3
Hello, My name is Rachel King. If asked to describe me in two words, it would be dedicated and passionate. My passion is helping members and providers better understand their health insurance coverage. I am a supervisor with CareFirst BlueCross Blue Shield, for which I have worked for 16 years. I love to analyze processes and create more efficient ways to perform the same function. My continued passion for helping our stakeholders have led me to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Health Care Management from Walden University. I am currently pursuing my MBA with Walden University and my Fellow from the American Health Insurance Program (AHIP). Continuing to educate myself through school and mentorship will allow me to give to others in my organization and community.
Executive Summary
When I identified my professional passion for helping others better understand health insurance through innovation, I began my educational journey. Additionally, through my passion, I wanted to become a manager to help make decisions that would help shape the healthcare industry. In 2013, I acquired my Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management from Walden University. With my bachelor’s degree, I learned the fundamentals of healthcare management and began applying them in my day-to-day activities as a supervisor. Shortly after acquiring my bachelor’s degree, I decided to continue my education and obtain my Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) from Walden University. Because my specialty was health insurance, I signed up to gain my Fellow in Advance Health Insurance Studies. Doing this would allow me to gain insight from all perspectives in the health insurance industry. I am excited that I will have my MBA and my Fellow by mid-2022.
My experience in healthcare began in 2005 as a customer service representative. I quickly gained the knowledge necessary to become a lead customer service representative in 2007. I worked to help members with Individual Health insurance policies understand claim adjudication and enrollment & billing. This line of work made me want to become involved with large employee groups. Therefore, I became an account representative until 2010. Then, learning how other parts of the company operated, I ventured back to customer service and became a supervisor in 2013. However, as a supervisor, I began working on member and provider complaints and appeals. This line of business was exciting because I started learning the laws and regulatory guidelines for health insurance companies. I have been working in this line of business for the past seven years as every day you are taught something new.
Through my education and experience, I am knowledgeable with customer service, claim adjudication, enrollment & billing, regulatory laws (Maryland, Virginia & the District of Columbia), and Medicare & Medicaid. Each of these skills encompasses helping members better understand their health insurance policies. Although understanding one's health insurance policies is more significant than these skills, from my experience, having this knowledge will prove beneficial.
If a recommendation is needed, do not hesitate to contact Terea Montague and Shawn Mcleod. When speaking with either person, you will hear that I am a reliable, motivating, trustworthy, ethical, innovative, and passionate supervisor. In addition, they have witnessed such accomplishments as being promoted, gaining education, and becoming a leader. These accomplishments were pointed out because I did not have much experience as a new supervisor seven years ago. These ladies have helped shape my career and acted as mentors to me over the past seven years.
