Service Orientation Project/Concept Comprehension Analysis
Objective: to develop a plan of action to positively change the lives of three people and to act upon that plan to positively influence and/or support each person. This project will meet Intellectual Competencies (CCIC) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Educational Objectives (EEO) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Course Objectives 1, 2, 3, 4, and Skills for Living 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9.
Rationale: Social and community engagement, based on the concept of Pay It Forward , affords you the opportunity to be of service and influence others through the application of communication concepts and principles. Learning to positively engage others and be of benefit without expectation of return gives you the opportunity to understand the effects of your behavior on others, learn how to assist others in their growth/awareness, and to engage in appropriate and supportive behaviors. You are to learn and apply communication concepts through being of service in TWO of the following relationships: a friend, a family member, or a business/community person or non- profit agency. No addiction issues without approval from me. This will assist you in improving and analyzing those skills/concepts. You are required to spend a minimum of ten hours with each person. If you are doing the service-learning course, you will need to spend fifteen hours with your non-profit agency and five hours (minimum) with the other relationships. It is suggested that you not reveal the nature of your activities to the people involved. Agencies that are not in the Service Learning paper will be allowed if they meet the following criteria: they must be non-profit, not connected to a religion or a group of people that help only those of that religion or members of the group and you cannot be paid.
