Discussion Board Grading Criteria

Total Points: 25 points for each unit Discussion Forum

Discussions are a significant part of online learning. Consider this your "in class time" where you can interact with your classmates and instructors to discuss what you have learned from the course materials and how it relates specifically to you.

For each unit Discussion Forum, you will be graded on the following criteria:

 Active/Timely Participation: Initial post must be submitted by Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. EST of each unit, with at least two more participation/reply posts to classmates submitted no later than Sunday 11:59 p.m. EST of that unit.

 Professional Communication: Posts are written in proper English, and are grammatically correct with no spelling, capitalization, or punctuation errors. Correct APA in-text citations and references are used.

 Response to Questions: All questions are answered in complete detail in the initial post.

 Evidence of Critical Thinking: Posts are written using personal experiences and research so that classmates are motivated to continue the conversation and enhance and explore the topics being addressed.

 Course Connections: Posts contain clear connections to the readings and activities of the unit and show clear evidence that the course materials were reviewed and understood.

Unprofessional communication; many errors; APA formatting not used.

Posts have minor grammar, spelling, and APA errors.

Postings are professional and written in standard English using correct spelling, grammar, and APA citations.

Response to Questions

Questions are not fully addressed.

Minimal response to questions; minor aspects missing.

All questions (and all parts of questions) are fully addressed.

Evidence of Critical Thinking

Critical thinking or extending information in posts is not evident.

Obvious responses to questions; little thought evident.

Posts demonstrate critical thinking with evidence base from research or experience.

Course Connections

No connections provided to the unit materials.

Minimal connections provided to the concepts/topics of the unit materials.

Clear connections to the topics/concepts of the unit materials.
