Find a mixed group of men and women (at least 4 people) and monitor them for 30 minutes. If a private setting, tell them you are completing an assignment for your ANTH 110 class. If public, then presumably they have agreed to be seen by others. Download and print (or download and customize an observation logger app to your cell phone, like Behavior Tracker) of the Gender Communication Observation coding sheet accompanying this exercise (see Canvas). For each 1 minute segment, note who is talking (e.g., use speakers initials, or attire designation). Now tally your results according to the general categories of men and women. Which gender did you observe to be speaking more often? Who interrupted the speaker? Which speaker was interrupted more often? Prepare a 1-2 page report,  with a paragraph devoted to each of the following:

1. Question: In a mixed-gender setting, do men and women communicate the same? Differently?

2. Methods: Describe your observation format, i.e., where did you made your observations? How many men were present? How many women? Were they related? Of the same generation?

1. A general summary of the methods you employed (behavior observation).

2. Image of your conversation group if possible (ask for permission!!).

4. Comment on your findings. That is, perhaps there was one extrovert in the group who dominated the discussion. Could context influence your findings?

5. Reflect on your findings. Were you surprised by your results? How representative are your findings do you think?
