Topic ONE

1. My personality type was ESTJ, logical sensory extratim or “The Director.” My main positive trait from www.socionics.com was that my type was a, “strict factual logic, which means I make exact calculations in practical matters.” The description also said that I am realistic person. And under the negative personality aspects it said sometimes I am unable to control my emotions in full.

Am I person that makes calculations in practical maters? I think this personality trait pertains to me. If I was planning a vacation or to move somewhere for example, I would do a lot of planning in advance. One of my personality traits was also that I am a realistic person, if someone told me they were going to go to the NBA and they were 5ft tall and 35 years old for example, I would probably first respond by saying that’s not realistic. On the other hand if they were 7 feet tall and in the 16 years old, I would say that could be a realistic goal for them.

I think this and other personality trait varies from situation to situation and I think we all share some of this personality trait. For some it may be more profound in there thinking then others. A negative personality trait for “ESTJ” was the inability to control your emotions in full. I actually don’t give in to acting on my emotions I compare this to a basketball player and how losing your emotions during a game could cost you the game similarly it could cause a bad situation in life. Another negative description personality trait says, “you are often find yourself overloaded with work that appears from nowhere.” I feel like this is something that happens to a person if they are not good at time management, then they may feel overworked or they may be taking to much on, I feel that a lot of us deal with this issue and are able to manage our time to avoid this.

I do feel that some of the negative personality traits, feeling that your overloaded or losing control of your emotions is a feeling that all personality types have, but I think that even those the feelings of being overworked or losing control of your emotions can be controlled, I think that this test is a good beginning to looking at different personality types and what they excel in and what they have as challenges.

2. My type is ISTP (the artisan) and it is true in some ways. For instance, it said my weakness is my inability to show my real feelings to others, which is so true.

I do think this definition fits me because it stated how I have a good business sense and that I only take on projects that are beneficial to me and I stay away from unprofitable ventures.

I think it fits into a team and work environment because i tend to be the more organized one and I plan every detail of my work beforehand and prepare all necessary items before I start a project. This reflects good time management because instead of spending time getting all materials ready to start a project, we can now use that extra time to spend making sure every detail is correct before the deadline.

3. My type is the INTP "The Observer" - or the "dominant introverted thinking" type. After reading the definition of the INTP type, it does seem to fit me well. It is not one hundred percent, of course, but it does seem to hit a lot of points of interest in my personality to a tee. Two notable traits I have that the INTP type touches on is that I am a 'wait and think' type, and also that sometimes I view some social relationships as superficial/ not really worth investing too much time into. Another big one is that I am definitely very pedantic. I am trying to balance out my being a sort of perfectionist with being efficient with my time- but usually my perfectionism wins. One of the differences between the type and I is that I am not sure I necessarily 'establish credibility' as much as the definition might imply. Another huge difference is how I do not properly manage my work/leisure time. I find myself usually cramming hard to finish things the day of or the day before a deadline. Hopefully this is just a bad habit that I have kept through high school, and my real self is closer to the typical INTP type- someone who can properly manage their time.

This could be due to the fact that I am still pretty young (20), and therefore basically everybody is more credible/experienced than me, or that it is a difference between me and the stereotypical INTP type. In a team environment I can see my type as more of the 'planner' or 'analyzer'. This is not the same as a leader, though, rather it is the person who uses past data and tries to show/guide the team leader (who is hopefully better with people) possible solutions to problems.

4. What is your type?

INFJ the Empath

Do you think the definition fits you or not and why?

I would say both the positives and the negatives fit me rather well. My compassion for others, understanding of people and life, helping people with real needs and how I find rudeness and bullying intolerable. I also tend to over-analyse everything, too modest, bottle my feelings inside and pay too much attention to details and quality in my work

How you think your "type" fits into a team and work environment.

In a team and work environment I am great at conflict resolution, hearing everyone's side and putting all the pieces together. I do however overthink things which can be irritating to others and need others to keep me aware of time constraints and deadlines. I also have a habit, in a group setting, of ignoring my own ideas to appease the greater good and get the job done.

Topic TWO

As many of our fellow students have pointed out, business communication is a diverse subject which can take many different forms such as public speaking, various forms of writing, and being an engaged audience. In my own experience I have found that being a good public speaker gives back the greatest result. This is because very few people possess the natural ability to get up in front of a crowd and deliver a speech and even fewer are able to use their speech to make the audience feel a certain way or even change how they feel. I believe orating is one life greatest skills, which is currently under threat through the rise of technology.

In my opinion, communication includes writing (letter, report, etc.), speaking and listening. Each of them have several skill sets. For example, writing in business, writing essay, speaking in business, etc. Each skill requires you to take time to master, and every of them is important. I think speaking carries the most weight because with a good speaking skill, you can achieve your goals if you use speaking effectively. For example, you can use your speaking to persuade people to buy your products, you can do a good presentation that can help everyone increase courage.

I think a good analogy for the skills that comprise good business communication are used by Youtube’rs everyday. They are do public speaking which involves communicating your message or ideas to an audience and also receiving feedback from them. With the YouTube analogy there is also promotion happening and branding of themselves, selling there products or services. Speaking with people, sending out your message seems to carry the most weight, sending it out over the phone, in front of group or on YouTube, seems to be the most important. People like PewDePie a YouTube star, who have 100 million subscribers, are experts at sending out there messages to subscribers. A persons ability to speak and convince others on their point of view or ideas seems most important, whether its to your subscribers, in a work group or in a personal setting.

4. In my opinion I think business communication is very complicated. My husband always speak to me with a business vocabulary and I do not understand him most of the time. I think that communication takes a lot of public speaking, writing, and listening skills. You would assume that as long as you can talk you will be a good candidate but it takes a lot more than that. You have to know their vocabulary so you can sound like you know what business is about. They are all important when it comes to business meeting or business projects. If you want to be a good business partner I think that they all "weight" in about the same.

Topic THREE

The YouTube interview with Caroline Kennedy REALLY got under my skin, I have never seen it prior to this topic and I kind of wish I had not just now. In the past I have caught myself overusing the word “ like”, but I outgrew it after my first public speaking experience, as I was teased for it. With that being said, if I have any additional (annoying) verbal habits, I am unaware... However, I could name a few people that I find it hard to carry conversations with because of their annoying verbal habits. “Uhm” being one of the worst! One of my best friends can not go two words without using that air filler of a word. I get annoyed when I can not tune it out, but I would never not work with her because of it. In sum, I can tolerate a person’s annoying verbal habits, but I do feel myself being more on edge during the entirety of the conversation... oops!

2. When I was younger I had the "um" issue but luckily speech and debate class got rid of that fast. I think the biggest verbal faux pas' that I have are nonverbal body language habits. I have very high anxiety and tend to move my hands around a lot and often times find that I need to force myself not to pace.

I have worked with multiple people who use "like" or swear words after every other word and it makes it very difficult to not focus on that instead of what they are actually saying. I have had to ask people to slow down and gather their thoughts before we move any further in a conversation because they were so scattered that it was impossible to put all the pieces together.

I think it is important to recognize these verbal and non verbal faux pas and for people to point them out respectfully as well because once you see them in yourselves you tend to catch them with ease and eliminate them all together.

3. I know some people with many different verbal habits. I am the first on that list. A verbal habit is something that many of us have but we just don't know it. I was able to discover mine after taking a speech class and we had to record ourselves during the final. I say "UM" a lot and it was very annoying. However, I do not say it when I speak only when I have to talk to a group of people or give a presentation. Now every time i have to publicly speak the first thing on my mind is to control my "ums" . When it comes to myself i can not hear it but when i have to work with somebody who has it I wish they can finish talking soon. It is very annoying and sometimes uncontrollable. Swearing is not as bad unless they swear after finishing every single sentence.

4. Although I found the interview to be incredibly irritating, I'm not proud to admit that I use many of these verbal faux pas. I believe that our community plays a huge role in the reason why these faux pas have become incredibly normal to the point that sometimes we don't even realize it when we hear them because they are so common. I remember as a child I would use "ya know" so often that I had a teacher of mine repeatedly respond with "no I don't know" until it completely diminished from my vocabulary. Now I only use it when I'm having a casual conversation and when it appropriately fits into the dialogue.

Another verbal faux pas that I've been proactively working to eliminate is "like" , it's so ingrained in my vocabulary because so many people use and I wouldn't want to carry that word with me into my new professional career.
