Literature paper LJ
Alabama A&M Kinesiology Masters’ Report Tips and Process
✓ Students get approval for their topic in PED 598, it is the Narrative Literature Review for that course.
✓ Draft 1 is submitted for a grade in PED 598 and feedback is given
✓ Draft 2 is submitted at the student’s discretion, usually the first week of the semester they expect to graduate, but
they are encouraged to submit soon after completing PED 598!! The advisor or Dr. Conkle will proof again and
provide feedback.
✓ Draft 3 should be almost perfect, and ready for the advisor or Dr. Conkle to APPROVE and send to the
Department Chair for approval. It then goes to Graduate Studies for review, and then onward to 1-2 English
Faculty Members for Review – if there are still issues an English faculty member will be assigned to work with
the student.
✓ Depending on how late a student begins this process, and the quality of research/writing, it may take one week or
15 weeks (and in at least 3 cases, in Kinesiology, it has taken 3-6 semesters) for a student to submit an acceptable
paper. A few students who passed comps and had passed all their courses, chose to never submit a paper that was
approved – since this requirement was added by Graduate Studies.
✓ The AAMU College of Education, Humanities, and Behavioral Studies has a Writing Center (“The Write Place”
in Carver Complex North) to help students. The Graduate Writing Studio also has reviewers who can assist
students throughout the entire writing process, from beginning to end.
