Project 05 Interior Construction Cost Estimate Professor Davidson INDS413

Project 05– Interior Construction Cost Estimate In this assignment you will prepare a cost estimate for the interior construction of one (or two if necessary for including all items on the listing) of the focus areas within one of your completed studio projects.

PART 1. Draft of written narrative and materials listing during class 18. Note: Use as a reference the written design concept (or a new design concept you create) for the studio project.

Note the ceiling height(s) in each of the areas. Using generic (not brands) descriptive information, explain the level of finish (mid-level or high-level quality) and the specific types of materials and finishes that you intended to use in the space. Write using a narrative, paragraph-style in third person, as would be included in a magazine article/story. Stay with the facts, avoiding the use of ‘marketing’ or ‘promotional’ language (such as beautiful, innovative, best, stunning). Cite interior construction and finish materials for ALL of the following items listed. The written description must be a minimum of one typed page, single line space with double space between paragraphs.

Note the height and thickness of interior walls/partition assemblies in each area, and include the module sizes and thicknesses of specific materials and finishes.

Interior wall/partition types (NOT storefront) – 2 types, one of which must be primarily of glass Applied wall base – 2 types Flooring - 2 types (such as carpet, wood, porcelain tile, stone) Wall Finishes - 3 types (such was vinyl wallcovering, paint, tile, wood panel) Ceilings - 2 types (cannot include areas open to structure with no installed ceiling) Cabinetry - 1 type (such as reception desk or breakroom) Doors with frame - 2 types Door hardware - 2 types Be specific as to material type, thickness and size, so that you will be able to establish unit prices for each that may be used for Part 2.

PART 2. Develop an estimate of the interior construction cost for the focus area. Use the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet example provided, including columns for:

Item/Description Quantity Unit (SF, LF or each) Unit Cost including O&P (Labor and Materials, and Overhead & Profit combined) Total

Subtotal the costs by each area (all offices may be combined if wall heights and materials are the same); and provide a grand total for all areas. Prepare a cover sheet with the following: With project name Assignment 05 Interior Cost Estimate Spring Quarter 2021 Professor Davidson INDS413
